What's up with the show titles when hitting info?

Is CV actually getting worse with the titles they give you for what's on when you hit the info button?

I've seen a bunch lately that elude my memory, but I currently see them abbreviating "George A. Romero's Diary of the Dead" as "Diary Dea"

Seriously? It's perfectly clear that they could fit "Diary of the Dead" in the allotted space, but they chose to abbreviate it in this horrible way.

What does CV have against a good looking and functional GUI?

not CV's fault.
they get this data from upstream providers, so complain to those.

It's much easier to complaint to Cablevision. Why doesn't cablevision either complaint to their provider or consider switching or changing. When I had cablevision they were worst with their title info an guide info. Never see that on Fios or Directv.

I don't pay the upstream providers, nor do I have a direct relationship with them. It's CV I pay every month. CV are the ones responsible for the service I do or do not receive.

My Tivo does not abbreviate titles and I can see the complete descriptions as well.

Cablevision's GUI is just terrible and the font is too big to allow you to see everything.

ok, go ahead then, complain to CV, see how far that gets you.
while you are at it, might also want to try to complain to TW, Comcast, Cox, VZ, ATT, DTV,etc and see how far that will get you compared to CV's response.

How dare you question the company you pay > $100 a month to. If anything, call them up to thank them for letting you use their service, and make sure to ask if there's anything else you can do for them.

you can put your sarcasm same place CV will put your complaint about cut off titles

Maybe they put them there because too many people share your frame of mind. If enough people complained, I think it's more likely that something gets done than if no one said anything. How much more likely is up for debate.

But honestly, Cablevision should be happy to get user feedback/suggestions.

It's because not enough people complain that they think they have a 'far-out' GUI that "customers miss when they go to other services".

You missed the point completely. It was a simple statement regarding basic business, the law, and knowing who is or is not a counterparty to any agreement you might have.

Anyone considering the older people or those watching on 15" TVs in their kitchen or office? If the font is too small how are they going to read it? The cable box may know what aspect ratio but not the size of your TV. You could always hit the INFO button if you want the full title and description.

But they currently show titles of more than 20 letters. From my example, "Diary of the Dead" would only be 17 characters. We all know the GUI is outdated, but they are just messing up things that don't have to be. "Diary Dea"? Seriously? "Diary of the Dead" could easily fit even with the current GUI.

And hitting the info button (twice) may give you the full title, but more times than not, you'll only get half the description. To get the full description most times, you'll have to hit Guide or the iO button, wait the 10+ seconds it take for the page to load, then hit the SEL button to select the guide (why is there a guide button again?), and then hit info to get the full description.

Heaven forbid they give the option to 'page down' on the smaller info screen.

You're on the right track. If you called the upstream provider, you would be *one* person with an issue. If you got ten people to call, you would be *ten* people with an issue. When CV calls them...they represent *3 million subscribers* with an issue. They have the clout to get some action.

Its not with their upstream provider, which is Tribune... Tivo shows the name of the show in its entirety, and they also use Tribune. Take the issue up with CV.

^^^^^^^^^^^^
very poor example
even cablevisions guide shows full names on shows longer than an hour
your screen shot truncates the "paid programming" which is an hour show and "My Name is Earl"

You obviously missed the whole topic here.. The poster complained that when he hits the INFO button it does not show the full name of a program. He wasn't talking about how it appeared in the Guide. This led to many people responding that Cablevision's data provider (Tribune) was not sending full guide information, and that the original poster should complain to Tribune to fix their information.

Since Tivo & Cablevision both get their guide data from Tribune, my point was to show that the Tribune information is correct -- and that the truncated show name when the poster hit INFO was due to a) CV's equipment or b) CV truncating it themselves to make it fit on their equipment.

If he were to complain to Tribune, it would get him NOWHERE since the information THEY are sending is correct.

Also, you'll notice that even though this has nothing to do with the original poster's complaint, if you move to the item in the grid that is truncated, the full title appears at the top with Tivo as indicated in the screenshot.

I have Time Warner and my parents have Cablevision... display info is much better on TW - I can page down and see a full description. Maybe Cablevision only gets the "lite" service???

I got to use a TW box in N.C. and I never understood why the page down on the info did not bring up the full description..

I hope the new boxes does away with all these stupid headaches.

We can hope and we can dream but do we have real faith that things will change?
