Re: seems october charters tacking on new line item Initially, I was not talking traditional cable networks, I'm talking local broadcasters who as a previous post indicates, they negate Must Carry and opt for retransmission consent agreements in order to get both revenue and their sub-channels on cable and satellite systems.
I find it hard to believe that a local broadcaster would get any money out of it. Cable and satellite penetration has to be better than 80%, with roof-top antennas all but disappearing. Seems they're in a position not to be requesting anything but being on the channel line-up. Yet the cable companies pony up the money.
As far as traditional cable networks go, certainly at some point these price increases will reach a point where people just say "screw it". I did so with DirecTV, opting for a much reduced line-up to save money. In an economic environment with next to no inflation and no real wage growth, the greed of these people is more than evident. |
