Re: [STB] Comcast Standard Def Boxes I have Comcast Digital Starter Package My Comcast invoice lists HD DVR Service Package - $8.00, High Def Equipment Lease - $7.95, Dig Ad Outlet Access Fee (includes Digital Box, Remote and Digital Access) - $7.95. The HD DVR is on the livingroom TV. The digital box is in another room.
Question: If I want HD in the other room, will Comcast simply allow me to trade the digital box for a HD box and not charge me for additional HD service? What is the cheapest way to get HD in the other room? |

The HD fee is for the entire house. A standard def box is 7.95 also. So if he is already paying the HD fee (because of the HD DVR) then he can switch his SD box for a HD box and the price doesn't change. |

Reason for that is because anyroom DVR is launching around the country and most households will only need 1 DVR after that launches.
So in reality after that launches it would be 15.95 for primary DVR and 7.95 for HD Boxes that are capable of pulling the recordings from the DVR.
Now if Comcast priced additional DVR's at 8.00 then it would put a huge strain on DVR supply because customers would not utilize anyroom DVR and get additional DVR's for a 5 cent different over HD boxes. Thus instead of the home having 1 DVR and 3 HD Boxes a majority of customers would opt for getting 4 DVR's for a total price difference of 15 cents. So you can see as a business decision it makes sense to keep DVR pricing at 16 per DVR. |

So if he is already paying the HD fee (because of the HD DVR) then he can switch his SD box for a HD box and the price doesn't change. In my Comcast area we are charged $6.95 for each additional digital outlet (the outlet is defined as digital when a STB is connected to it). If that additional box is an HD box, you are charged an additional $7.95 each = $14.90. The HD/DVR is $15.95. I get two different answers from Comcast if one is charged the extra $6.95 for an additional HD/DVR box, which if one is, would be $22.90. I only have one HD/DVR box and one SD box. The SD box is part of an HOA bulk package, so I don't get charged the $6.95 second outlet fee for the HD/DVR. In the past I have had an additional HD box on a third outlet which cost $14.90. This ridiculous practice in my area of charging $6.95 for each additional outlet and $7.95 for HD service on each outlet is why I removed this box. |

One single fee for ALL HD on an account One free SD box Fee for each additional box Fee for each DVR Up to 2 free DTA Sounds like it should be a major benefit to subscribers in pricing. One drawback for my area is that we were once an Adelphia area. There has been a remarkable improvement in the quality of service since Comcast has taken over but it also has been very slow. |

andyrossPremium,MVM join:2003-05-04 Schaumburg, IL | Saw this in my latest bill: RESIDENTIAL CUSTOMERS: On 10/1/10, the monthly HDTV Equipment charge of $7.95 will be renamed HD Technology Fee and will authorize access to Comcast HD technology on all outlets in the home connected to HD capable equipment. The current monthly price of $7.95 will remain the same. Add'l outlet or equipment fees may apply for each addl outlet connected to Comcast service. Additionally, as of this date, a HD Basic Service Only Receiver will be available for $2.50 per month per outlet, plus applicable fees and taxes, to customers subscribing to only the Basic level of video service. If you currently subscribe to Basic Service only with a Comcast HD digital receiver, effective with your October bill statement, you will begin to be charged a HD Basic Service Only Receiver charge of $2.50 (includes one remote) instead of the HD Technology Fee for each outlet having a Comcast HD digital receiver. |

 | reply to chewch99 OK, so HOW is this better (cheaper) for HD subs then???
As I & others pointed out, right now in my & other areas it's: - $7.95 for each HD box - $15.95 for each DVR - NO added HD fee
So now, according to what andy just posted (which I also just received) now there will be the "HD tech fee" added onto each account w/HD. BUT, it appears the equipment pricing is STILL the same as before - at least according to what chew posted.
OK, so tell me again just HOW this is better for me??? |
