Borked by winupdate ....again

I don't know which of the windows updates did this, but jeez they could have done better.

In the pic, see the prompt that says "Please wait 2 seconds for an uncompressed....blah blah" ?
It blocks me from getting the link info if I hold over a hyperlink (great security update there boneheads!).

Anyone know how to turn this *feature* off, or repair whatever is broken ?

Oh yea....

I don't think it has ANYTHING to do with an update.

When logged on your account, go to your Forum Preferences and turn off "Topic Preview Pop-ups".

Lets not get into account *issues* on this site please

It has nothing to do with that.

This happens on any site, on any link, on any image.
All I have to do is holdover *anything* and this annoying box pops up.
It also stops a link from showing the URL down on the bottom of the browser.

As you can see.....

I just updated 2 days ago (from windows update) and that is when this started.
Coincidence ? I think not.

What browser are you using then?

What updates were installed?

If you believe it was an update that caused it, then have you removed them one by one to narrow it down?

FWIW, using IE8 with all updates applied I am not experiencing the problem.

1 - In the OP you'll notice I mentioned IE
It is 8.0.7600.16385 (if you really really need to know).

2 & 3 - I currently have 47 updates installed and am held hostage by a slow internet connection (note the tmodns, hint: it's Tmobile 3g cellphone tethering). I do currently have all updates installed save for a few of the "optional" ones (like the bitlocker one since I don't use bitlocker).
I could take a full day or so and uninstall each not knowing if it was a combination of more than one causing this issue, and then take a week or so re-downloading them on my slow connex......and then there is the possibility of using too much data transfer and the resulting overcharges.......

I dunno, I thought it might be easier to ask if anyone else has experienced this, you know, what with it being the entire reasoning behind this forums existence. There is also the possibility it might help someone else who is experiencing this and has'nt had the time or wherewithall to post about it.

Should we just forget I asked and tell me to reformat ?

T-Mobile apparently uses "image optimization".

It's discussed in the following link:

I've had this occur under Firefox and it was either a DirectX or graphic card driver update that fixed it for me.

It seems that is the problem.
I got a new phone the same day I did the updating :|

Glad you were able to get some help figuring it out....generally it's easier when there is less sarcasm and condescension and more details on all the recent changes.

Guess it wasn't Windows update...

The logical fallacy of your original post has a name: "post hoc ergo propter hoc". In plaint English, "After this, therefore because of this".

@tmodns.net

I would post something relevant here but it isn't allowed due to the fact that I REFUSE to register at this site.

Oh yes, I was registered in the past, earlier than you would believe. There are reasons for everything, even the issue this thread began with.

I'm willing to admit that I made a mistake, or possibly it was an oversight (you choose, it's quite unimportant to me due to it being irrelevant).
But, if you can't be part of the solution......

Quo eris demostradum baby
