Re: I can wait

Samsung and Metro can claim that all they want. The devices are not anywhere near the FCC. If they were the fillings would have hit main stream news on here about docs being filed and with pictures.

Until the FCC has these documents posted; no such device will be made. And if the devices were at the FCC someone on here would have already posted it.

And what would you do with those existing smart phones? they won't work with LTE. You'll be screwed. Smart phones are already going down in price. A BB can be had at RadioShack for $89-170 depending on the week. That is contract free and on Sprint Boost and Sprint Virgin. Both operating on CDMA. How much cheaper do you want? Free?

Sprint does the same shit as the other major carriers - tease you with a low rate only to have it inflated to nearly double after all the "taxes" that their sales personnel never tell you about.

Seeing the videos online of what people've been able to do with the Code (which runs WinMo 6.1) is pretty impressive, and there seems to already be apps that compensate for what initial features it might lack on their sales type. And it makes sense to skip 3G altogether and go to 4G (or higher) if they can.

And considering some of the shit that does get past the FCC, I don't think they'd have a lot they could do to stop either company from launching the product.

Actually Engadget had a leaked shot of an LTE phone heading for MetroPCS a few days ago. It's a "feature phone" though.

But people need to keep in mind MetroPCS is using the minimum of 1.4 MHz channels for their LTE throughput. That means you'll be getting 3G speeds, though with very low latencies. They're leapfrogging 3G because 4G is much more spectrum efficient and eventually they'll be sending all voice over 4G data lanes.

Speak for yourself. My taxes and fees on my latest bill (with 3 lines) was $7.49. I do wish that my bill was low enough that that amount would constitute nearly doubling it.

and the LTE still isn't out of the lab. 1 city! OOOOO. And what happens when you take that phone out of LV? The phone won't work! OMG! IT uses EVDO data! Talk about a screw up on that part!

Um what are you talking about? First, the service will supposedly be available in two cities-Las Vegas and Dallas-Ft. Worth initially. Second, why won't the phone work outside of those cities? It also has CDMA/EVDO. What screw up are you referring to?

With AT&T, we were looking at a monthly jack of over $20/month in taxes on a two-line family plan. And because one line had basic texting (for work purposes), I couldn't get texting blocked on mine, which resulted in a very irritating stint of getting sacked $0.25 per text received or sent. As such, the bill was all over the place, even with the business discount.

Nevermind that they always put you on a two-year contract, but only gave you phones that lasted one year.

Nevermind the jacked up ETF's charged per line for service.

I don't have to deal with that with Metro. I know exactly how much I pay, and it stays that rate every month. I also get a lot more features with the service at this price than AT&T would give. Just the GPS functionality alone is another $10/per line, per month, on top of whatever additional taxes and fees they would get away with charging you for the privilege.

And even with the business discount, there was no such breaks if either of us (if not both) had went with the iPhone. Even if just one of us got it, that would have increased our rate by 50% per month for each line. I also hated that I had to stick with a dumb, barely working phone because anything else worth using would have had them impose an additional $20/month for an arbitrary data plan of some kind.

With Metro, my current rate wouldn't change if I switched over to a smartphone. I don't lose any features either. And unless there is a drastic change in their pricing/rate structure with this new LTE phone, I will be able to freely upgrade to it once it's available. That's definitely much nicer than having to pay $800+ should I have wanted to upgrade my phone with those god-awful contracts.

I'm not really a fan of Metro here...my sister has them and the service sucks, but I do agree with you that at&t sucks.

I'm just grateful that the coverage does work well here, and for what I currently need, suits me fine. The price is definitely right for what I get from Metro.

I also like the fact that I can basically upgrade whenever I wish. Yes, it does mean having to buy the phone upfront, but it also means not having to be saddled with some long commitment. If I were on AT&T (or any of the other major providers) now, I'd have to wait at least a year before I would even be considered "eligible for upgrade", all the while pining for a newer, more capable phone.

At the moment, the most expensive one that I saw for Metro was the Caliber @ $349 before any rebates, and after that was a Blackberry Curve... but that was more expensive due to the increase of monthly service rate ($60/month for Blackberries as opposed to $50/month for smartphones).

At least if it came to be down the road that I'd need to change providers, I don't feel like I am being gouged much of any. At least now, I fail to see any reason to do so. It works where I need it, and it's not often I'm in an area where it doesn't.
