the problem is your GF. She needs to learn how to wash clothes. First rule of clothes washing is to check all pockets before putting the clothes in the wash. I've been washing my own clothes since I was ten and that is something you learn pretty quickly.
It's rally a guy thing, women put all their crap in handbags, guys put stuff in pockets. However, I'm surprised a smartphone would survive a pocket. I only have luck with flip phones in mine.
