 | [Rant] Integrated RAM! Ok, on some devices, I can understand it's appeal, but really, on a laptop?
Case in point is a Toshiba A65 laptop someone brought me to look at, BSODs, and so forth. Fails memory tests here and there, you can run it one time, and it passes, then run it again, and it fails immediately, so I know the RAM is faulty.
Except it's a 256MB integrated chip! WTF? So thanks Toshiba for making a laptop that is unrepairable in the event of a memory failure.....
I've had a couple if ASUS netbooks that have had faulty RAM, and they too were integrated. It's quite annoying. If a company insists on making their systems like this, you should be able to turn those chips OFF in the BIOS. |

 | reply to captokita You sure it's integrated? Often it's a replaceable module but not readily accessible, usually under the keyboard. |
|
 | The A65 is interrated you could of gotten 256 , 512 or 1024 modules intergrated.
There is also slots to add more memory but if the intergrated one went bad your SOL.
Ther eis no wany to disable the onboard ram however if your good at soldering you can try to remove it and just put ram into the free slots. -- Email/MSN: Michael at hardwaregeeks.comAIM: MikeR35292 |

 | said by Technogeez:Was there a label on the case saying there are no user-serviceable parts inside? the better question is, was it fully noted before purchase that the end user would not be able to upgrade and or repair a basic computer component.
i am reminded of the days when cpu's where glued in to the socket. |

| And RAM as well, at least on US15W chipsets.
Fine, keep it to netbooks, don't dare put such a stupid design on regular laptops. -- Peter Schiff for U.S. Senate. »www.youtube.com/user/SchiffReport |

I suppose I don't have a problem with that, as I've not had many cpus fail, as I have integrated RAM. It's not like you're going to upgrade a netbook much anyway, it's pretty much meant as a disposable PC.
But full size laptops is wrong IMO. |

if you know how to solder you could desolder the old chips and put some new ones on it |
