I think they're horrible, they look like crap, especially on new cars. Why they would revert back to those old ugly colors (whether they are the state "colors" or not) is beyond me, but typical of NY. Out of all the colors in the world, they picked orange and blue, ugh.

I was thinking a nice, pale pink w/fushia lettering would have been nice.

This from the snooty guy from CT!

Ok, back on topic. I can't express how much I hate these plates without getting a mod on my rear end. I will not change plates or car until I am absolutely forced to do so. I know they did this as a money grab but the morons should have also elminated the front plate like so many other states have done. Charge the same for half the materials. Maybe the blind idiot doesn't know about the front plate???

But that would reduce the effectiveness of the LPR systems that are becoming popular.

I know this thread is old but I just have to also say that I hate these new plates with a passion. Yes, I've been around long enough own a car that had the old orange/blue, and I have no desire to have that as a throwback. First of all, the colors of NY are orange and blue, but not THAT orange and not THAT blue. Second, it just just ugly and without character. It's not even a real throwback with that top blue stripe. It sticks out like a sore thumb on most cars on the road in NY and it was done purely as a money grab thanks to Patterson.

At first they used the ridiculous excuse that the plates were losing their reflectiveness and therefore made it a mandatory change with a charge for all. Then, like someone said, they pointed out that Delaware hadn't changed for decades and all of a sudden it is no longer mandatory but new registrants will now get them since they were not making the old ones anymore.

I plan of keeping my plates for as long as possible. Our "governor" can't leave Albany quick enough.
