Ptrowski..tell us. What on earth do you think that ftth will provide to someone that Comcast isn't already?

You mean... 90% of your footprint, right? I wasn't aware Comcast serviced 90+% of the country.

So, what has Verizon FiOS gotten me?

- Faster speeds (25/25 versus 16/2)
- HD and a DVR
- Reliable dial tone and phone

All for a cheaper price.

Comcast customer support was atrocious -- I especially liked the part when a Comcast rep first claimed Blast! was 8/1 then claimed Blast! wasn't available to me despite a specific line item charge for Blast!. Comcast billing was atrocious. Comcast promises to extend my promotional rate and then increases my bill by about $40 - thanks! Comcast charges me for an unlisted number... but decides to list it anyway. When I complain they double bill me for a year's worth of unlisted service. For all the supposed FiOS billing problems, I'll take the ever so minor issues I've had with FiOS billing over the nightmarish situation Comcast had me in month after month after month.

My service would work great for a few months and then the *BAM* everything would be screwed up [several times, I somehow got un-provisioned for the Blast! speeds]. Numerous times I would have no dial tone -- I once went a stretch of nearly a week without phone or internet -- Comcast saw no problem with that situation. A completely new run of RG-6 and a new cable modem... still didn't fix the intermittent dial tone problem.

So, what has FTTH gotten me? A reliable service at a good price with a company that is courteous on the phone and makes a truly genuine effort to correct problems.

I'll keep my FTTH thank you very much. Especially since it seems my area isn't yet worthy of DOCSIS 3. [EDIT: It would seem perhaps DOCSIS 3 is now available, must have changed since the last time I checked a few weeks ago, based solely on the faster speeds now being offered]

Correct, no Comcast here in my neck of the woods. The fastest I can get is 10/1 for $70 a month with my local cable company. We must not be worth Comcast's time to be bought out.

Hell, Comcast can't even get 12 megs to work right where I'm at. Forget 50. I guess we're in the 10% they don't like to talk about.
