I'm sure this will be identical to Cablevisions "On Demand" service and yes theres a slight lag using that compared to a set top DVR. Also fast forwarding a "On Demand" show is problematic (jittery and hard to control) compared to a set top DVR's fast forward and reverse.
Personally I prefer the performance of the set top over a remote storage option.

Slight lag?!? If that's all you are getting you are lucky. 95% of the time I get "Could not load, please try again later". during peak time.
