| [Help] 2006 G6 Brake Light stuck on
Hi all - Car is a 2006 Pontiac G6. The rear center brake light is occasionally sticking on. The left and right operate normally. Discovered this after the 3rd time in 2 weeks that we went to leave in the morning, only to find the car stone dead, with nothing apparently left on to drain the battery.
We have seen it a few times since, and thus far we can get it to turn off by pumping the brakes a few times with the car running (the one time I tried with the car off it didn't help, as expected the pedal just firmed up).
Anyone who is familiar with newer GM vehicles, is this likely to be just a switch at the brake pedal, or otherwise?
Doing some googling, this link: »www.justanswer.com/questions/1i7···in-other
suggests that I may need to do more than just swap the switch if that is indeed the case. Can anyone confirm?
Thanks -- I do whatever my Rice Krispies tell me too.... |

| If you don't remedy the situation right away you could always disconnect the bulb for now so it wont drain your battery, wish I could solve your problem though -- Have a look at my life as a cab driver in the bronx! »bronxcabbie.blogspot.com |

| reply to JimmySask I've replaced lots of brake light switches in later model GM's for just such an issue.
You can reach up under the dash and unplug it next time it sticks the light on....if the light goes out, bingo, problem found. It's on the brake pedal arm right where the rod connects and goes to the master cyl/brake booster. Be careful, the wires are pretty small diameter and can tear out of the plug if you're not careful.
In a move of sheer brilliance GM decided the brake lights should be the activation switch for the ABS system....so not only is the brake light on, but the ABS is energized. That would be why it kills the battery rather quickly. |

| reply to StNickless Just make sure you plug it back in before you head off to get the part!!!!!
You don't want a ticket for no taillights (or worse, to get rear ended)!!
I'm not positive, but MEDIAN2K3's idea might only sound useful. That brake switch feeds a sensor, as well as the lights, so removing the bulb might only make it take longer to kill the battery.
Someone who knows for sure, please chime in... is that sensor still active when the ignition is off? |
