2 edits | [Equipment] VTA-VR firmware 1.09 "-NA" Anyone care to try a VTA-VR "-NA" firmware made from the vonage version 1.09 ? I am not using these adapters much so I am not sure if vonage made any improvement over the version 1.08. However there are some changes that I made myself to the web interface: - I noticed that if a settings page has too many options only some of them save. So I reduced the number of options (took out some that didn't seem too important) from Line 1 and Line 2 but all the ones left save properly. The limit seems to be at around 25-30 settings - the Dial Plan was one of most important things that would not save even after reducing the number of options per page. For that I had to do some replacements in the string before saving - the newest firmwares for all the CYT based devices, prevent saving the SIP username and password through the web interface. I fixed that too. So for anyone wanting to try the new firmware here it is: »rapidshare.com/files/333228451/vta109-na.zip |

| Actually there has been another one for quite a while based on the Vonage version 1.00.08, made by rcilink. The reason I made this one was more to learn how to unpack/repack the CYT firmwares and to get fix of a couple things that I didn't like in the other firmware (the problem with saving the dial plan, the Vonage logo that showed everywhere and IVR messages encoded into the default config file that were still talking about Vonage). |

 | reply to toro Watch out, after installing this firmware and doing a full factory reset the Support/Admin passwords are changed from what ever you had before 'blank'/tivonpw/Admin too something else. short story - I'm locked out only user/user gets in but that is almost useless. long story - I tried everything except getting a serial cable. trust me I read the big 40 something page long thread that is here over and over. I tried every method in it, the url trick, hard reset, with the exception of producing said cable, at least three times. That is how I had unlocked it the first time. I feel stupid for saying this is there any way someone could download an encrypted xml file from vonage for VTA-11.4.1-r060815-1.00.09-r070401.img and then decrypt it with your key and see if there is a password in it for Admin or Support? please and thanks |

With the previous version of the VTA-VR Firmware, if the username contain certain letters, e.g., "E", the unit would not register with the provider. Is there anyway that the firmware can be modified to accept all letters as part of the username? Thx
EDIT: I just notice that all my SIP values are blank after the upgrade to this newer firmware. Is this normal and meant for us to install each individual values? Even if I attempt to enter SIP values, the new firmware would not allow me to save (apply) the entered values! |

I just tried one of my adapters with an account named like "johndoe" and everything is working fine.

Even if I attempt to enter SIP values, the new firmware would not allow me to save (apply) the entered values! I've seen this a few times with firmware 1.00.08 as well as 1.00.09. Usually a factory reset fixes the issue. Also you may see some pages not displaying at all. Basically they time out when they load. Most of the time it works to just close your browser and leave the adapter idle for a couple minutes then open the browser and login again. |

qingz join:2003-10-20 Canada | reply to toro I tried this firmware, everything looks good. More stable than 1.08. Only one thing I am missing is I can't set the time. There is nowhere to set time server or manually set the current time. The problem I have is my telephone will reset the clock from the caller ID whenever it gets a phone call. And the time from the caller ID is generated from the VTA adapter which is off for months. |

With version 1.08, my VTA always freezes after a few hours when connected to my asterisk server. So I was not be able to use it. This firmware 1.09, I have not found any problem yet except the time. I check version 1.08, there is no where to set the current time either. So, is there any way to set the time? Can I set it by provision?
Thanks! |

| The firmware is set by default to sync the time from pool.ntp.org and the time zone is set to the Eastern. I can try to add a setting to change the timezone, but no guarantee that I will be able to. Otherwise, the timezone and NTP server can be set through provisioning. |

 | reply to toro Toro,
I CYT'd mine a few year ago but didn't get into the XML file thing and therefore it had use with very few providers and when I got off Betamax, I put it in the closet.
I assume I have to SSH to get your file onto my unit? Then I can just go into the web pages and make it work with most providers without the XML thing?
Please advise. Sorry I forgot so much about this stuff. |

I stand corrected: the ntp server is set to pool.ntp.org, but the timezone settings don't seem to work. The time is always set according to GMT. I tried to add a couple fields to set the NTP and timezone but they don't seem to work. |

Thanks, I'll try it. |

 | reply to toro Toro,
You are the man.
I was able to register with a couple of services. I did notice that the SIP page settings do not save or do anything when clicking apply. I was trying to set the timer to 3600. All boxes stay empty. Other pages work fine. |

Use Internet Explorer and you should see the values and can change at will!
Still have issues with User Name that starts with an "E", like Magic Jack username (E95XXXXXXXX01). It look like it substitute a "*" for E if you look at the log.
Toro, could you post your "Provision" Page and is it required to install the XML file once you install the new Firmware? I'm having problems doing so. |

I haven't tried it with a MagicJack account (I don't have one) but it works with other services that use usernames instead of numbers. You are correct, the log shows * in the username, but the adapter seems to register and works fine. |

 | reply to DaveSin Dave,
That was it. Thanks. I often wonder why I use Chrome, it always is some issue. |

I am sure it is not timezone problem, since the time is not off by hours, it is off by years. I tried setting the timezone and NTP server through provisioning. It did not work. I can see my other setting works with provision. |
