My guess for Pro is that the price will rise to at least $35 a month, and maybe even on a par with AT&T Southeast (where 3.0 Mb/s "FastAccess" is $37.95 a month).
Perhaps they will "split the difference", and give us BS (as in "Bellsouth") prices, while giving them SBC uploads (currently, AT&T Southeast charges more for 3 Mb/s, but delivers only a 384 kb/s upload, in contrast with the rest of us (legacy SBC) getting 512 kb/s uploads).
But seriously, a price hike of the magnitude of AT&T Southeast tiers would make Comcast an economically feasible option for me. Unless I just drop back to lower speed of service. -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum |

| An increase in Elite pricing better come with faster speed, better performance and matching or surpassing T/W's best offering in N.Tx or (as much as I hate cable companies in general) I'll be switching to T/W HS Data w/o a second thought. I've had SBC/AT&T DSL since 2002 at each of the last three apartments.
Until recently I had an issue paying my electric bill online (TXU) when using my DSL line I can't get there w/o a DNS error. I eoither have to force DNS to something other than the SBC/AT&T default or use my Cell phone to connect and pay the bill. I ended up changing electric providers that still does not excuse SBC/AT&T.
btw customer tech support (barely speaking english) tried to tell me that TXU.COM was a special URL not available in my area curiously its registered address is on Bryan Street in Dallas (3 miles from me), and that's the AT&T Dallas CO. Special location ummm don't think so
I'm moving to a downstairs apartment next month, I may just drop all three SBC/AT&T services (POTS, Cell and DSL) -- DLink DIR-655 (a3) fw1.32NA / DAP-1522 (a1) fw 1.21 {1-ap/1-bridge mode} / Siemens SpeedStream 4100 |

GaffEvery Villain Is Lemons join:1999-09-05 North TX, US | Suddenlink just announced higher speeds here also. It looks like they now have 12Mb and 15Mb packages available in this area, up from 8 and 10.
I'm torn, because I moved away from Suddenlink due to packet loss and speed issues (I was often getting less than 1Mbit at peak hours) but if those issues have been fixed then higher speeds are something I am interested in. On the other hand, my DSL is solid as a rock and has latency that I would have killed for on my cable. -- My PC Gaming Blog »thegaffadin.blogspot.com |

better performance ... I don't know about performance. That clearly varies by POP center, and the condition of the local plant (DSLAM to premises) has a lot to do with it. But I've not had any serious performance issues out of the Pleasanton, California POP center. I was moved there because of some issues at the Santa Clara, California POP center.
... and matching or surpassing T/W's best offering in N.Tx or (as much as I hate cable companies in general) As a rule, ADSL can't keep up with DOCSIS 3.0. -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum |

| reply to kar98 My family keeps asking me why we don't switch to cable service. The argument about price looks like one which will be harder for me to make. The lack of UVerse development to my house while it is all around me is further disappointing me. I am feeling that at&t may be leaving me in broadband purgatory, while Comcast is clearly making an effort to provide upgrade paths. Although if significant metered limits do happen a small price increase may not seem so bad. |

1 edit | reply to NormanS said by NormanS:As a rule, ADSL can't keep up with DOCSIS 3.0. Arguing that ADSL can't keep up with something that is NOT available to me in Dallas TX is an EMPTY argument TW/RR does not have DOCSIS 3.0 anywhere in N.Texas (per their tech dept yesterday, no plans exist either), FIOS is also a non-available option here. Essentially they don't cross each others legacy borders. AT&T only does it because of the legacy copper into the home.
The only offering AT&T is giving me for better speed/performance is their newly bumped up U-VERSE tiers. Impressive yes but it only comes bundled with their crappy TV product. I don't want their overpriced crappy TV product anywhere near me.
You presumed that everyone was in CA and had choices I'm in TX not CA the Repugs have decimated any real consumer protections that ever existed here and the AG refuse to stand up for the people unless its the corp oil people or other environmentally unsafe corp pumping tons of what would be illegal anywhere else in the USA into the air. At times it really bites living in the anti-competitive good ole boy state of Texas. The only examples anyone should ever draw from Texas be it utilities, health-care or anything is what NOT TO DO! Because the general public will LOSE, so be warned if someone sides with or endorses a Texas Repug they are siding with policies that will hurt you. -- DLink DIR-655 (a3) fw1.32NA / DAP-1522 (a1) fw 1.21 {1-ap/1-bridge mode} / Siemens SpeedStream 4100 |

| reply to StillLearn There are really two distinct regions since AT&T "Borged" Bellsouth.
After SBC bought AT&T, they changed the corporate ID from "SBC" to "AT&T". Prior to the BS acquisition, the company provided ILEC service to:
Former Ameritech (5 Midwestern states) Former Southwestern Bell (5 Southwestern states) Former Pacific Telesis Group (parts of 2 Western states) Former Southern New England Telephone (1 Northeastern state)
Those comprise the "13 state region" referred to.
Then there is the 9 state, former Bellsouth region: "AT&T Southeast". -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum |

As I understand it, they have something called "Fastpath", where the advertised speed is the speed obtainable as opposed to the sync rate. |
