1 edit | Hello, my name's jimbojonesBC, I'm new here...Got a question
I just found out that my provider offered newsgroups and has for a while -since '95? lol- and I want to know how to navigate them. I'm using outlook express and I've downloaded 12,000 newgroups', but how do I know which one's to access? Which ones are popular? Where can we discuss them?
Thank you.

| That's a nice guide, thank you. But what I need help with is choosing between news'. I have 12,000 to choose from. I don't know what I'm looking for! |

Shaw, my ISP, offers newsgroups to me. It's why I have to pay 40 dollars a month. So yes, it has to do with shaw. |

| reply to jimbojonesBC I suggest you go back and read the slyck guide. make sure you understand the parts about the file types, RAR, PAR and NZB. Assuming you are looking to use the newsgroups to download binaries (files), you'll need a proper newsreader (software). From there you'll need a search engine and a properly configured client, not much else. |

| reply to jimbojonesBC No - you want to know what groups to subscribe to. That has ZERO to do with Shaw and everything to do with your personal tastes. The filesharing forum discusses Usenet, what to look for, good programs to use (Shaw doesn't supply a newsreader, just access to the news servers, but I'm sure you know that already) and probably discusses different news groups - which ones to check out, which ones to avoid, etc.
The question is what do YOU want to view? Movies? TV? Play games? Learn about basket-weaving? It's all available on Usenet.
How about you suggest what you are looking for, then maybe we can help you. And a little less attitude would be nice considering people are trying to help you. |

Re-read the guide as suggested by Mustafa. |
