| MLPPP Stability?
Hi,
I was wondering, since Teksavvy started "officially" supporting MLPPP a few months back, have people had any problems/complaints after being switched over?
I may be interested in switching to MLPPP, but was wondering if anyone had any problems/complaints regarding degradation of service/speed? My main concern would be stability of the line (that is, I can always be online when I need to be, with no unexpected dropping of connections).

I've been using MLPPP for many months (before and after it's been officially supported) and I've never had any issues. It's rock solid.

I only run single-link, but it's been rock solid since the dedicated equipment for it. Currently connected for 55 days when I last rebooted my router for some config changes.

MLPPP does not change any line conditions. If you were stable before you will be stable now, if you were unstable you will still be unstable.

Working perfectly. I have two connections at work running off MLPPP, which have been receiving a 2.5 Mbps test broadcast stream from my datacenter servers for the last few days. While I've had the occasional drop-out, there have been no complete disconnections whatsoever.
BTW, the datacenter's router is a $55 Asus router loaded with the non-MLPPP version of Tomato 1.25. Works like a charm. |

As soon as I switched to the "@wiredhighspeed" address with MLPPP support, my browsing speed took a serious hit. And since then, whenever I use torrents, my browsing speed becomes absolutely horrible (like dial-up, except with very frequent "connection timed out" errors).
It's apparently not a common issue, but I know for a fact that the switch to official MLPPP caused it. It was fine, I switched and the problems were there right away.
Ah well... it's either that or be throttled down to less than 10% of my regular speed. I recently downloaded half a dozen free video games that the company distributed via torrent, around 400 MBs each, and it would have taken forever without MLPPP. |

I never changed the MTU, though, and my connection (was doing MLPPP with the unofficial MLPPP support) was fine before I switched. I'm not knowledgeable when it comes to these things, but why would the same MTU value work with unofficial MLPPP support but not with the official one? I know they're different, obviously, but as far as I know we weren't given any particular instructions along with the login change.
It's quite irritating, but what can I do? When a problem appears the first logical step is find out what changed, but here, the only thing that did is something I have absolutely no power over.
Anyway, just a little warning that sometimes you get unlucky doing something apparently trivial. Most people are fine switching to MLPPP support, but nothing is risk-free. |

you should definitively download and installe the latest unstable build... all default settings are configured correctly...
If you upgrade don't forget to erase all data in NVRAM to make sure that the new firmware runs with the correct settings. you do this in Administration, configuration, Restore Default Configuration section.
it says unstable... but I'm using it since it was released and I never had a single problem with it. |
