| As a player and former referee, it should go beyond an automatic red, the NCAA needs to step up and hand down a big-time suspension. (yes, I realize she's already been thrown off the team)

I used to play soccer as well and we'd get carded for kicks, chest high, and obvious elbows or deliberately tripping. The Refs should also be taken into account. |

| True, but once you notice a player have a reaction (ie the first time it happens) you pay attention to both players, regardless of whether they have the ball or not.
You may miss the first time, but the next time something happens you shouldn't miss it. A referee and his linesman only job isn't to be solely focused on the ball. You have to pick up the small things and make sure they don't escalate. |

The back AR has the perfect angle to watch for things like this. His job isn't just to continuously stare down the touchline. Remember, cards for events off the ball do not require an immediate stoppage of play. Next whistle, the AR gets the center's attention, and they talk it over.
