| Instant criminal background checks, real or fake?
I would like to do a quick (instant) background check on someone I am thinking about hiring in NYS. Are there any instant checks that provide this information, or are they all a scam? Some say they only provide felony conviction information, are there others that also provide misdemeanor info? |

I would go with something local if at all possible. North Carolina offers 123NC and when I've used it, it caught felonies that a professional investigator we hired didn't! The difference was he used some type of national database for criminal record checks. -- trafficcloak.com - pptp/sstp vpn services |

| reply to wifi4milez First, there is no national database that's accessible legally by anyone except law enforcement. Anyone who tells you there is, is either lying, getting info illegally, or is law enforcement and getting it illegally.
Background checks are done at the county level, not even state. Usually what's done is the particular counties someone lived in, based on a social security search from their SSN. It's a credit check, so it should list their previous addresses.
We run the last 7 years, addresses and criminal backgrounds, but I believe the searches only show felonies.
You might want to check your state's employment laws about what's required from the employee to allow you to legally run a check. When I was hired, I specifically signed forms allowing a background check and the scope of that check.
Why would you want misdemeanor info?
BTW, I work for the largest on-site security firm in the world. -- Any Soldier My Gallery

| reply to wifi4milez Not that it helps you but here in Maryland the state has case search online allowing you to look at anyone's civil and criminal records in the Maryland Judicial system. I know Virginia has the same thing so it is a possibility NY has something along those lines. |

| reply to wifi4milez minnesota has a public-accessible website you can look up court records, judgments, restitution orders, & convictions (petty misdemeanor up to Felony). Perhaps NY has something similar? -- Yes. the cat in my avatar is indeed mine. |

| reply to wifi4milez NCIC III is a complete criminal background check. It shows every charge and the court action from those charges, felony or misdeamanor(sp?) nationwide. Any law enforcement agency can run them, county state or city. I run them for officers here at work. They are logged and audited yearly and if misused, the agency can have their NCIC privleage suspended. As others have stated, a complete NCIC III is not available to the public. Your state or local agency should have a way of running a state check that is usually provided to the public. Just some info to add to the discussion. |
