| Does Anyone Know how to track Fairpoint Maine IP HOME
This may be a weird request, but I know someone has the answer. I use Google Adwords here in Ellsworth, Maine to target search words for my wifes business. The target area is 30 miles surrounding zip code 04605 Ellsworth , ME
Anyone in that area who types in say, Seamstress...and uses Roadrunner, will see all my wifes ad results displayed on Google, plain and simple, but many people called me to complain that they see nothing, and they ALL have Fairpoint for DSL
Google is stumped. I am stumped. IT techs are stumped
MY ONLY reasoning is that maybe Fairpoint originates its DSL from a location OUTSIDE of my 30 mile radius and Google doesn't see users computers are being in the zone
Tonight I included ALL of Portland Maine and 20 mil radius around, no change!!!
This really sucks for business search results and Fairpoint does NOT have a clue and won't talk to me about it.
Can anyone figure this out for me
Thanks and good luck

| reply to jbmaine Thanks for the quick reply, but it tells me nothing. Maybe I asked the wrong way?
When someone subscribes to Fairpoint in Central maine, Ellsworth, Bar Harbor, Mount Desert Island area, I wanted to know WHERE their signal originates from
The reason is that NO ONE can see my ads on Google when they type keywords, but all Roadrunner users CAN!
Again, I have adwords SET to ONLY DISPLAY web ads in a geographical area 30 miles from Ellsworth maine, so i am assuming something on the Fairpoint USERS computers, is telling Google and Internet Explorer that these users are OUTSIDE of my 30 mile area and DO NOT DISPLAY ads on these users computers
In order for me to have Fairpoint users SEE our ads, I need to know the area, so I can tell Google to include this area in its display zone
Does this help? Thanks again |

| There is no way to directly map a user's IP address to location.
FairPoint customers get an address from the pool FairPoint controls. You need to have some of the folks you know look up the address FairPoint is giving them and then looking up where it is registered to.
For example my Fairpoint IP address is 70.16.221.148
As whois lookup yields the following:
There are a number of IP location services that attempt to be more precise, based on routing information and other sources. When I plug my address in I get varying answers within about a 60 mile radius.

»www.whatismyip.com/ »whois.domaintools.com/ There are lots of them on the Internet, this just happen to be ones I use.
OR
One stop shopping from the BBR tools page. Displays IP and does whois lookup: »/whois

| reply to jbmaine A better tool to use is this: »www.ip2location.com/ The previously mentioned tools simply tell you where the registrant is...The website I just mentioned gives the Geo location that the ISPs assign to the IP address.
Mine happens to be listed about 10 miles from me, smaller towns may end up having theirs many miles away.
Most e-commerce websites use this type of lookup to track and predict fraud. In my opinion, setting Google to serve up results only in a 30 mile radius is a bit small, as it is up to the ISP to keep these results updated and in some cases they may not be entirely accurate, or locations can be quite a ways away. -- Block Accounts | UseNet Now |
