4 edits | [Connection Sharing] Need ICS + Media Center Extender
I just installed windows 7 x64
Here is my current setup: cell phone tethered > PC > wireless router > Xbox/ps3/wifi
My PC is sharing the connection to the router > xbox which forces the IP to be static (192.168.0.1). I can't ping my xbox... I can't find the xbox on my network. Checked all my router settings netgear - WGR614 v6 uPnP is enabled.
I was on tech support with a media center expert for a full hour and he couldn't help me.
Is there any way to have a static IP / Internet Connection Sharing setup and still share files via Media Center Extender? Another hinderence: I can't connect to my router's settings page on this PC, even when allowing IP settings via internet enabled. Maybe something's just majorly wrong with my setup. Please help.
edit: At the very least could someone explain why this is not possible? |

With ICS you are sharing the internet provided by the cell phone and using a wireless router to send it to the X-Box ? From the NIC of the computer which port did you connect to on the router ? It should be to a LAN port.

If Media Center Extender shares files the same way Windows shares files then YES ! What device are you sharing the files to, and how does that device connect to your network ?

| reply to Makoto hi there, First thing first, you are not able access the router home page from your PC.
Are you able to access the internet from your Windows 7 PC?
How do you try to access the router home?
Get the defualt gatway IP address from the LAN settings.
Type that IP addresses in the browser.
When you will be able to access the router home page, you will able to see that the what ip addresses gets the XBOX.
Stop any kind of sharing before u r make sure u can ping the XBOX from your PC.
Ask a question here, I will answer.
Thanks Shahin |

1 edit | reply to Full Power Thanks so much for the help!
For starters, I have my PC hooked up to the modem port in my router. When I put it to one of the regular lan ports it doesn't work at all.
The IP for the xbox is dynamic.
I'm sharing from the Media Center Extender to the Xbox because it doesn't allow me to transfer MP3s. :O |

3 edits | This will be easy to get going. Disable the DHCP server and UPNP in the router and plug the output of the PC into a LAN port on the router. Then the X-Box will get an IP address directly from the PC. If you would also like to be able to access the GUI of the router then program the LAN IP of the router to be in the range of 192.168.0.xxx (Be sure the router's LAN IP is not 192.168.0.1. If it is then change either it or the IP of the computer NIC).
After making the changes be sure to restart the X-Box so it will renew it's address. |
