said by Neth :Today were pleased to introduce the Pet Store for World of Warcraft, a new way for players to obtain in-game pets to join them on their adventures in Azeroth. Two brand-new companions are now available for purchase exclusively at the Pet Store in the online Blizzard Store: Lil K.T. and the Pandaren Monk. Make a Difference: Pandaren Monk Charity Pet Enter the Pandaren Monk, ( » us.blizzard.com/store/details.xm···00000763 ) a martial-arts expert whos here to help celebrate the upcoming fifth anniversary of World of Warcraft. He may be cute, but hes proof that even the softest of critters can overcome the hardest of circumstances. For every Pandaren Monk that finds its way to a players side between now and the end of the year (December 31, 2009 at 11:59 PDT), well donate 50 percent of the $10 purchasing price to the Make-a-Wish Foundation in an effort to brew up a little hope, strength, and joy in a childs life. Lil K.T., the Littlest Lich Lil K.T. is a miniature lich who bears a striking resemblance to the legendary lord of Naxxramas, KelThuzad. But dont let his diminutive stature fool you: Lil K.T. has a diabolical laugh and wields true power at his bony fingertips, randomly wreaking icy havoc on critters who dare to cross his path. You can now buy this new pet for $10 on the Blizzard Store. (» us.blizzard.com/store/ ) In order to receive a purchased pet, youll need to merge your World of Warcraft account with a Battle.net account. | At least for the Pandaren - likely the more popular of the two, if purchased before the end of the year, will give part of the proceeds to charity.
Either of these seems like a good candidate for a "stocking stuffer" for the WoW players out there, since you can gift them to someone else. -- When the ship lifts, all bills are paid. No regrets. |

| I have absolutely zero problem with Blizzard monetizing stuff like this. They already do it through the TCG except there's a middle man.
The line I draw in the sand is where there's a game altering experience that's more than cosmetic.
•310% mounts •Armor/Weapons •BoA stuff •Pre-Leveled Toons (though I'd be hard pressed not to purchase...) •etc...
Someone on their forums said:
quote: They could send every player $100's
I dont think anyone would complain about that
(snip)
After someone mentioned something about a theory in which there isn't a single act Blizzard could do without someone complaining.
I laughed so hard because there'd people out there saying any number of things such as:
"I've been playing since release, why did I get $100 and the guy who signed up yesterday get the same amount?" "Hand outs for scrubs. I earn my money"
"Ret isn't OP! Buff Ret! btw, I want double pay since I play a non OP class!"

| reply to djlar If it was a little more towards the charity I would do it, but it's just a marketing scheme. They make $5 for every purchase too. Why not just send $10 to a charity and feel better for it. -- I'd take the time to insult your intelligence, but you probably wouldn't get it. |

For every Pandaren Monk that finds its way to a player’s side between now and the end of the year (December 31, 2009 at 11:59 PDT), we’ll donate 50 percent of the $10 purchasing price to the Make-a-Wish Foundation in an effort to brew up a little hope, strength, and joy in a child’s life. WTF kinda hope you gonna spur up in little Jimmy with terminal cancer for $5? They should just do like most other places do, send all the procedes to them. I mean, they obviously are not hurting for money (11+ million subscribers x 15$ per month). Even if you subtract operating cost I am sure they can afford $10 per purchase to go straight to the Foundation. | I'm seriously hoping you're joking, right?
50% of a purchase is HUGE.

Wow has been "ruined" according to people unhappy with one or two aspects of the game since its inception. Since it began, it's been ruined by rooftop camping, the removal of rooftop camping, the lack of honor, the implementation of honor, the lack of dishonor, the implementation of dishonor, the removal of dishonor, the removal of wall walking, rank rewards, decaying rank, the removal of rank decay, the removal of PVP titles, Ahn'Qiraj, Scourge Invasion, Zul'Gurub, the cost of mounts, the lack of information about TBC, all information released about TBC, playable Blood Elves, playable Draenei, Horde Paladins, Alliance Shamans, flying mounts, the timing of the release of TBC, the cost of flight, Jewelcrafting, the LFG channel, holding people accountable to the Terms of Use, meeting stones, arenas, the number of arena teams one player can have, arena-based gear rewards, the lack of battlegrounds, the addition of battlegrounds, everything about battlegrounds, Illidan being killable, Daily quests, instance-based reputations, the Darkmoon Faire, /pizza, playable wisps, Tinfoil Hat, the Armory, Warden, the lack of information about Wrath, all information about Wrath, a failure to revamp old world areas, the inability to transfer from PVE to PVP servers, hero classes, siege engines, cold weather flying, Wintergrasp being a PVP zone, death knights, the inability to start a new character of any class at 55 or higher, the lack of a dance studio, character recustomization, the inability to change race or faction, the cost of mammoths and motorcycles, the fall damage negation of mammoths and motorcycles, the removal of fall damage negation from mammoths and motorcycles, the ability to transfer from PVE to PVP servers, dual specs, Achievements, holiday events, Mountain Dew Game Fuel, streaming Blizzcon ’09 on pay per view, the revamping of Onyxia’s Lair, Worgen for the Alliance, Goblins for the Horde, revamped old world areas, the ability to change faction, the ability to change race, new race/class combinations, purchasable vanity pets, as well as weekly maintenance and patches 1.1 through the current one inclusive.
In that time, while WoW was being ruined by all of the above, WoW has quintupled its subscriber base. So don' t be disappointed if Blizzard doesn't leap to change whatever you say is killing the game. -- Come play Mafia! | My Picture Blog |

Actually, 50% of the proceeds is admirable. Garantee you it wasn't free to code these pets into the game and roll them out.
With 11 million + subscribers, the potential donated total is significant. |

50% is HUGE when MOST "charities" out there donate maybe..and I mean MAYBE 10% of the donations they receive...the other 90% goes to overhead. |

2 edits | reply to drew About »Re: The Little ... Pet... Shop of Horrors. It was a joke about how anytime Blizzard does anything good, someone complains. Damn me and my inadequate skills at internet sarcasm. If they only donated $2 of the purchase I would still say that is a great thing. They don't have to do any of this at all, yet they do it. I agree with Derlos, I guarantee that coding those into the game + having people send them cost way more than the $5 profit they will make off the purchase. My reply got in late to the post I guess so it didn't mesh well. And I got called a tool. Man, I think that was the best thing to hear at the end of a 12 hour work day. Now let's see if I can go home and hear my wife yell at me or my newborn son yell in my face for 2 hours starting at 1 am like he did last night. Notice my reply was to Drew. You are seriously going to complain about a charitable act done by a company with the economy the way it is? I say, more power to Blizzard for doing this. Hell, I'd be impressed if it was only $2 going towards the charity, much less $5. Even if only one percent of the 11,000,000 subscribers bought one, that would be 110,000 x $5 or $550,000. Not a very small sum whatsoever. (Math is hard! Also, if you are making it a joke, which, by the way, seems like a co--nevermind... just make it a little more obvious next time.)
I mean, look at the World Series. Some company (the name escapes me) said they would donate $1000 for every homerun hit during the World Series. There is no guarantee on that (though, if and when was the last time a World Series didn't have at least one home run during the series), but it is still appreciated.

1 edit | reply to kingdome74 also some tauren is named after his toon or something. think he was also the first to get an achievement due to devs beating it for him. not 100% sure but was something about a mount as well. I am sure I can find it somewhere.
found the article, kids name was Ezra Chatterton, they made the weapon "Merciless Gladiators Crossbow of the Phoenix" for him, his toons name was Ephoenix. They also had him do the voice for Ahab Wheathoof who is followed by his dog Kyle, which was Ezra's real dogs name. link here »www.ocregister.com/ocregister/bu···2706.php |
