MBR1000 SGNL light; use 2 USB modems simultaneously?

Sometimes when I press the SGNL button to check signal strength, it lights up and sometimes it doesn't. What might I be doing wrong?

Also, since I am using over 5 GB/month now, I recently got a UM175 modem to go with the UM150 modem I've had for 1.5 years. If I plug both into the MBR1000's 2 USB ports at the same time, will they both download data simultaneously (since they would theoretically be connecting to the cell tower independently), or can the MBR1000 only handle one at a time? Of course, if they can work simultaneously, seems like I should get twice the download speed when downloading files, etc.

Finally, are the UM150 and UM175 equivalent in performance?

TIA.

For the SGNL button to work if I recall, you must unplug the power, hold the button down as you plug the power back in and for 15 seconds after. It is kind of a antiquated way since the last several firmware revisions allow you to see signal strength from the 'status' screen on the Cradlepoint web interface. See: '»www.wirelessnwifi.com/Firmware-Updates'

The second modem will essentially broaden your pipe, but it is not going to increase your speeds. Yes you can d/l on both simultaneously if you are using multiple computers. You can set the router to load balance and that should even out the usage between the modems. But you might want to trade positions mid month just to be sure, especially if a lot of our usage is on a single computer.

Performance between the 2 cards is pretty much the same.

cellguru, thanks for your reply.

I do have the latest firmware in my MBR1000.

When I said "twice the download speed" I meant "twice the throughput" (i.e., be able to download a file twice as fast using two modems as when using only one). Sorry I wasn't clear. Of course, to try all this, I'll have to wait until my new billing cycle begins on the 10th (I'm about maxed out with the UM150).

With the UM150, the MBR1000's Status page displays signal strength bars; with the UM175, the Status page doesn't show a signal strength bar graph at all!

Under Modem|Info, when both modems are installed, the one in USB2 says "offline"; is there a special order the modems should be installed? Should the router be rebooted after installing the two modems?

I've been connecting my PC with an ethernet cable to one of the router's LAN ports, and my wife's PC and my PS3 connect wirelessly. However, I noticed in my PC's (I have Win7) Control Panel's Network Connection Status page that I only got 100 Mbps; if I use a Linksys WUSB600N Dual-Band Wireless-N USB Network Adapter in my PC instead of an ethernet cable connection, the CP Status page says I get 270 Mbps. So, from this, it looks like I would get better performance using the WUSB600N, right? HOWEVER, in the router's Advanced|Network page, the WAN Port Speed shows "Auto 10/100 Mbps"; does this mean that the router's top output is only 100 Mbps, and that the WUSB600N wouldn't help? Or, is that only thru the WAN, and output via wifi really is higher?

Sorry to hit you with all these questions! I just thought I'd try to learn as much as I can to maximize my modems' and router's performance. Thanks for all your help.
