[Connectivity] What wireless router to use with Extreme 50? Help

So Comcast suggests the WNR3500 for the extreme 50 service. Ive got that router and when im on wireless I barely get 15 down. When im connected directly to the router I get 45-50 down. Am I doing something wrong here? Are there any other settings I need for the router? Ive searched everywhere on here, but there doesnt seem to be any clear answers...please help.

Re: [Connectivity] What wireless router to use with Extreme 50?

Have you ever tried a different wireless channel in the router ? Is the wireless signal strength good ? Is the adapter far away from the router ? Are there many walls, ceilings, or obstructions in between ? Is it a steel building ? Is the wireless adapter in your computer an "N" capable one ? Are there any wireless devices/telephones that are 2.4Ghz in your home ?

At first it was set to 6,10 and then I moved it too 7,11. On the router itself it gives me options to choose. One is up to 54, up to 145 and up to 300. I chose the up to 300 option and it only allows me to choose multiple channels. For instance, 6,10 7,11 etc etc. The wireless signal was really good. My laptop does have an N card in it. no other wireless devices other than cell phones.

Hmmm.. That's strange. You should be getting better performance than that. Does it have the latest firmware available for it from the manufacturer ?

When I logged into the router it said it was up to date. I even called Comcast and they said the WNR3500 is what they use. I may as well keep my WRT54G router hooked up because im getting the same speeds...LOL I dont understand what could be the problem. I figured a wireless N router would do the trick, according to Comcast.

i'll have to check the driver when I get home, but I believe Dell hasnt even updated since Jan. lol When I checked Netgear's website for the firmware I saw two different versions. I'll have to try the other version...

You're probably not doing anything wrong. Wireless just sucks.

But, to see a decrease from 50 down to 15 down is unheard of...

When I had 50/10 my Linksys WRT310N with DD-WRT could hit about 40Mbps reliably, after some fiddling. Was able to get it up to 55 at times on downloads.

Yes. Wired, I got 60/20 or so on the speedtest, same as if I hooked directly into the modem.

B-Top, is that wireless or wired? I get constant 45-50 down when wired.
