Impressive.
Here is the page I wanted to link to:

The vehicle does not use premium.

That page for the 2010 Models shows that both the 2.5 and the 3.5 use the word "Regular", but that can't be accurate, can it?

Regular refers to regular gasoline:

More info on regular vs premium gasoline:

And Wikipedia also has further information:

As for why the 2010 V6 specifies regular as a minimum requirement now, we can only presume that the specifications have changed.

Yes, I am familiar with all that info. Usually an engine with 10:1 or higher compression ratio would need the higher octane of premium while engines in the 9.5:1 to 9.9:1 range can run a mid-grade fuel and all engines below 9.4:1 can run on the lower octane regular fuel. With the advent of knock sensors, the C/R can go up some and still use Regular, but there is a minimal performance loss as long as you don't go past 9.8:1 or thereabouts.

Nice Flash Animation about C/R and Octane.

I'm surprised that you didn't post the Wiki's on Compression Ratio, Octane Rating and Octane since you did post the Wiki on Gasoline.

»en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compression_ratio

»en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octane_rating
quote:
Generally, octane ratings are higher in Europe than they are in North America and most other parts of the world. This is especially true when comparing the lowest available octane level in each country. In many parts of Europe, 95 RON (90-91 AKI) is the minimum available standard, with 97/98 RON being higher specification (being called Super Unleaded).

In Germany, big suppliers like Shell or Aral offer 100 RON gasoline (Shell V-Power, Aral Ultimate) at almost every gas station.

The United Kingdom also offers Shell V-Power, but in a 99 RON octane rating, and Tesco fuel stations also supply the Greenergy produced 99 RON "Tesco 99".

In Australia, "regular" unleaded fuel is 91 RON, "premium" unleaded with 95 RON is widely available, and 98 RON fuel is also reasonably common. Shell used to sell 100 RON petrol from a small number of service stations, most of which are located in capital cities (stopped in August 2008).

In Malaysia, the "regular" unleaded fuel is 95 RON, "premium" fuel is rated at 97 RON, and Shell's V-Power at 97 RON.

In the Netherlands Shell V-Power is a 97 RON (labelled as 95 due to the legalities of only using 95 or 98 labelling), whereas in neighbouring Germany Shell V-Power consists of the regular 100 RON fuel.

So let's come back to the subject?

Suggestion, test drive 'em, see what one you like. You're talking about two new cars, both from reliable manufactures. Both are too new to comment on any known defects, that rear brake "issue" is a moot point, their is no amount of time brakes should last. Not to mention for me that would be brakes once every 3.5 years. Not bad, how many miles will you put on this car, that's about all I can add.

really? the rear brake issue is just minor problem? Because it seems to be pretty serious.

I would test drive both vehicles, and make a decision. I've been driving Nissans since the mid 1990s, and love them. I haven't yet owned a 2.5 engine frm Nissan, but I have driven them from time to time. Peppy little 4's, I will say that. I personally love the CVT, and if you're not familiar with it, I would really encourage you to do that test drive.

My brother just bought a 2009 Accord Coupe. He loves it. I rode in it. I found the ride a bit harsh but then again I was comparing it to a Maxima and not the Altima, which is something I shouldn't do.

Personally, I think the Honda Accord Coupe looks better than the Nissan Altima Coupe.

Can't speak about the Honda brake issue, but I'll let you know in about 9,000 miles as my brother has barely broken his in yet.

It is in no way "serious" from any safety standpoint. The brakes stop the car until they are worn down, all brakes wear down. It's minor in that it happens a little faster than average. As I said, if it was my purchase, that would mean brakes every 3.5 years, again, how many miles per year do you plan to put on. It would make a big difference is how much money you would need to spend on brakes.

Probably 10k miles per year.

Personally, I think both ALtima and Accord look good enough to me. What I concern more is driving comfort and the repair/maintainense in the future. But yeah, I will test drive the ALtima this weekend.

Well, yeah both look good enough I was just giving you my opinion. I would venture a guess that in the long run, you'll be darn near equal with repair/maintenence. Test driving the Altima with the CVT would be your next step, so wait until you do that.

Is it Altima Coupe comfortable though? I read many reviews that complained about the road noise, suspension, brake system and visiblity.

As we all said, you have to test drive these vehicles. What one person may find comfortable you may not, test drive both, see what you like.

I found it fine, but then when I compare it to the Maxima I prefer the Maxima. But I can't do that because it's a different car.

I found the Accord and Altima rides to be similar. I found them both to be more than acceptable. I was pleasantly surprised by the Nissan CVT when I test drove it (Altima and Maxima), but not all may agree with the whole CVT thing.

Drive both cars.

1 edit
Actually, I just test drove the Altima today, both the Coupe and the Sedan. Coupe looks a lot better than the Sedan, yet Sedan is much more comfortable than the Coupe (according to my friend who sat at the back seat both times). Anyways, I found the Coupe pretty comfortable though. So I think I might go for the ALtima Coupe, although I will test drive one more time. By the way, the rear window is indeed pretty small, which makes it difficult for parking.
