| [truly free credit report] law sez so, but #%^* where? How?
Please & thank you for what (I hope) is an easy answer.
Federal law requires major credit bureaus (all three or four of them) to provide consumers a FREE credit report yearly.
Thus, a smart bird who paces requests one per quarter will get 4 reports a year, one every three months or so.
Yet the bureaus have hidden this from the consumer to promote their paid services as an alternative.
• Does anyone know where or how this is done, please?
Then I will sitemark my thread to save your kind response.
Thank you! Ugly -- Oh, I love the smell of fish. Guts, rotten, it's all good. |

How do you figure? - the math: 3agencies, one report per year from each. 3x1=3, not 4. -- When I gez aju zavateh na nalechoo more new yonooz tonigh molinigh - Ken Lee |

| reply to Ugly If the USA is anything like Canada, you have to fill out a form and send it off to the credit reporting agency. You wait until they send you out the report. Free, but it takes time. I know in Canada we have transunion and equifax, perhaps a third, anyway, usually you can find the form at their website. Cost would be your envelope and stamp. -- This message was composed using 100% post-consumer recycled electrons, please recycle responsibly. Composed and sent with Mac OS X... because windows sucks. | reply to Rob This is the best one if you want to connect to all 3 agencies -
or you can go directly to each one.

| It is free because it tells you to go to the correct site to get the free reports. It actually redirects to: »www.ftc.gov/freereports

Using the annual credit report site listed above, I got my credit report and scores from the 3 main agencies. It takes a bit of doing since you are directed to the 3 different agencies and 3 different interfaces, but it's not too bad. |

| reply to Ugly To add to what others have said - I like to mail my request. It requires less information from you and it is a one page form in PDF form. Just need Name, SS#, DOB and address/s.
I find I get my free reports just as fast online. I do not like to do it online, as they seem to ask more questions of you that I am sure will end up in their databases.
From that site, scroll down to this part:
" To Request your Credit Report by Mail:
1. Download the request form (You need an Adobe viewer to view the requested form. Download the free Adobe viewer) 2. Print and complete the form 3. Mail the completed form to:
Annual Credit Report Request Service P.O. Box 105281 Atlanta, GA 30348-5281
Your reports will be mailed to you within 15 days. Please, allow 2-3 weeks for delivery.""
Just make sure to shade in the 3 Agencies at the bottom. -- Darn, its gettin that time to go to Wallymart to gits me picture taken agin.
