| [HN7000S] Another lost evening? Server resets all over
I am seeing a problem right now, 9PM Eastern and onward, that I have seen once before, in which very few web sites load and many attemts to reach major site like Google consistently fail with a 'server reset' message from my browser.
Seeing this on a Mac and an XP machine despite rebooting the modem. Can't even run HughesNet speed test, but I am posting this. Weird. It's like HughesNet has dropped or blocked a whole chunk of the net.
I am posting this in case others have a similar problem. The last time this happened was a few weeks ago and others experienced it. Then, like now, I was unable to get email for several hours. Last time it lasted several days then things picked up a bit and got better (although i have not seen a download speed over 500Kbps in months, and I on the Pro plan where I should sometimes see 1.6Mbps).

| I have been seeing this,in the form of extremely High Latency in online games,at around this same times.
Pages also take for ever to load.
This has happened several times over the last few months.
I suspect they have oversold the Satellite and that this spike is because of all the Kiddie's coming home from school to play and do homework. -- Heavily Armed and Easily Provoked |

| reply to scobbz Same here. Can't get my email in Entourage. Can't browse the web without hitting page reloads 20 times and even then doesn't work; keept getting "server was reset." Can't upload my website changes via iWeb. Was in heaven down in my apt outside NYC past 2 days using my FIOS internet connection. Returned to this and am ready to throw the HN7000s out the window |

| reply to scobbz About half of our afternoon/evenings from around 4pm to midnight, I can't connect with our POP mail accounts and have to retrieve through the online interface. Some nights like on Monday Nov. 2nd, I couldn't even do that. Lots of resets etc on numerous sites all evening. -- 74West/1250Mhz/Proplan/.76m dish/HNS7000S/LinksysWRT54G/WindowsXPsp3 |

| reply to scobbz Same here again, it was fine for a week or two and now is back to the same old.
Can't connect to Google or Yahoo, surprisingly Bing works, can't connect to instant messaging, Steam, Windows Live etc..
I can connect to Yahoo/Google if I specify a proxy in my web browser (192.168.0.1:87).
My mother is driving me crazy again, she's intent on swearing that my computer is the cause of these problems.
Other web pages load fine, just can't load Google/Yahoo, connect to instant messaging, connect to Steam, connect to FTP in order to upload files and make changes to my website.
I wish there was some way to uncap a Hughesnet modem through custom firmware or configuration hacks. Don't get me wrong it's not to use more than my fair share, just to use the connection as it was advertised and stated in our contract. I wouldn't doubt Hughesnet is on the borderline of illegalities themselves for misleading advertisements and breaches of what is stated in the contract or rather what isn't stated.
Whenever I see a Hughesnet commercial, it makes me feel as if I want to pick up the TV and chuck it out the Window. I wish Verizon or Time Warner would extend Cable, DSL or Fios out our way so we can ditch the devil. We are only about four to seven miles outside the nearest city and about three to four miles outside the closest town with Cable/Fios. -- »www.xtemu.com/forum/index.html »www.xtemu.com/forum/portal.html

2 edits | Same here, about every evening this week. Sometimes a little better. I just closed FIrefox, back to IE and it took me 8 tries to get to this screen, where I'm hoping to post this reply.
Same here, some sites open, so take forever, some won't
Same here, intermittant Outlook email issues.
Last night and now again tonight, I'm tempted to waste more time and call India.
This is pathetic!!! (But what I've learned to expect from "HueghesNetBroadbandUnbloundHighSpeedInternetBySatelliteFasterSurfingFasterDownload sFasterEverything" (as long as you don't really want to do all those things very much!!)
It just took me 1/2 hour to make this reply!!! -- Win 2K & Win XP HN9000 CE, .74m, 1W on Spaceway 3 at 95W Linksys BEFW11S4 |

Same here with me this morning. It's really bad. Some sites, like this one seem to load reasonably ok, others that are content rich like my local newspaper are taking about 15 minutes.

1 edit | Yeah, it seemed to get worse for me as the day wore on with total loss of communication (red flag) on at least two occasions, even though signal strength was normal. Someone was having issues somewhere because it was up and down all afternoon. I've been in good shape since about 6pm or so and haven't had any trouble since. Unless my gear is magically fixing itself again. . . -- HughesNet: We promise nothing. We guarantee nothing. We stand by nothing. |

| Problems continuing this morning. Some pages open, other not. Some success on non-opening pages by using file>new> window, then quickly selecting the page I want to go to.
Can not open a local TV station page, in which I go for my person forecast. Page starts opening, then stops with the page loading bar (at bottom of my IE brouser winsow) getting about 3/4 from full and it just sits there. Waited about 20 minutes and screen is about froze. -- Win 2K & Win XP HN9000 CE, .74m, 1W on Spaceway 3 at 95W Linksys BEFW11S4 |

| Maybe not a Hughes issue?
About the time this started, I had also updated my FREE AVG anti virus. I'm having better surfing now, since I uninstalled AVG 9. Installing AVAST for protection until I can sort this out.
Still not sure it's an AVG 9.0 issue, just that the net is working better with out VG installed. -- Win 2K & Win XP HN9000 CE, .74m, 1W on Spaceway 3 at 95W Linksys BEFW11S4 |

1 edit | Another day, another new symptom. I've not gone down at all today, instead I've been running at a serious 300 baud - all day. I had about 5 minutes of "broadband" at about 12.35 est and that was about it. Oddly, sites like this one load pretty well. Others, like the blogs I frequent (daily) are obscenely slow, even though they are mostly text only. Really screwy sh!t.
edit: lost bandwidth at 9:40. Came back as I was typing this, at about 3:40. WTF?!?
I can not wait for the wireless installers to get here next week cause this is trash, and I ain't paying for it. -- HughesNet: We promise nothing. We guarantee nothing. We stand by nothing. |

·HughesNet Satellit..
| reply to scobbz Okay, Sunday evening on the East coast and some possible progress in understanding what HughesNet is doing. I think web and email traffic to major sites is being dropped, possibly on some sort of rotation, probably due to capacity issues.
Right now any attempt to search on Google from my HN7000S results in a dropped connection. But the same exact same search goes through immediately over an AT&T Edge connection from my iPhone.
Update: Things got so bad Sunday night I got disgusted and went to watch MadMen. Monday evening, they are doing it again, dropping google searches and email POPs at 1&1. Throughout this the HN7000S control panel says all is well.
Think about it: you don't have enough capacity to handle all your customers, how do you 'create' capacity? Turn off some of the busiest traffic, such as Google searches, POP mail from big ISPs. Like rolling brownouts to conserve power. It would be great if someone from inside HughesNet could confirm this. The folks who work there have to know consumers will drop them like hot cakes as the rural broadband rollout gathers pace.
I don't think the company itself cares. One is tempted to think they are all about the military traffic anyway...that''s where real money is. Us poor consumers are really just a cover story. |

scobbz Premium join:2007-10-02 Roseboom, NY | reply to theGhostPony Say GhostPony, what wireless are you getting? My county here in New york applied for funds to do a fiber optic loop along the power lines and then private ISPs can hang wireless broadcasters off that. Are you looking at something similar? |

scobbz Premium join:2007-10-02 Roseboom, NY | reply to scobbz Another factor contributing the conspiracy theory -- the HughesNet speed test server simply rejects requests when the service is really bad. It's like: No, we won't help you document how bad your service is. |

| site blocking really? They would have some major legal problems if they did that especially google. I would run some anti malware-spyware software because blocking seems very unlikely unless for legal matters.
Speed tests work on timeouts so if your under a heavy throttle, fap and/or weather conditions a hughesnet speed test will likely fail. |

| reply to scobbz That is outright scamming and fraud if they are doing this, if this is not fixed I am going to coerce my parents into talking with not just the BBB but the state attorney general, consumer protection division or whatever it's called, get the local news media involved and filing a suit to expose this company for what it is.
They make no mention of the prime time throttling in the contract nor in their commercials and now this crap, that in itself is misleading and should be considered illegal if it isn't.
Hughes is breaching the contract by doing this, this is not what we agreed to when we signed up nor is this mentioned anywhere in any contract or their commercials.
My mother is freaking driving me bonkers, she insists that my computer or the router is the problem when it's clearly not. I keep trying to explain to her that it's not on our end and the problem exist on Hughenet's end and their screwy system, that this is the penalty most subscribers are now suffering due to them oversubscribing the system beyond it's capacity.
So because of Hughenet's own screw up and mishaps, other consumers have to pay for it? That's just not right nor is it any fair, they really need to fix their own screw ups instead of making their subscribers suffer.
I can't connect to Steam, perform a Google or Yahoo search, connect to messenger or my FTP program. This is getting ridiculous and I'm actually considering raging at Hughesnet to make myself be heard, I am sick and tired of putting up with this and there is nothing I can do to fix it on my end.
They shouldn't be allowed to get away with this point blank, I suggest everyone stand up, file complaints with the BBB, State Attorney General, and contact the local news media. Additionally consider filing a class action suit and get other subscribers who are having troubles to provide their feedback on the poor quality of this service. -- »www.xtemu.com/forum/index.html »www.xtemu.com/forum/portal.html

1 edit | 1.1 SPEED CLAIMS AND DISCLAIMERS
HughesNet® service is available in the contiguous U.S. with an unobstructed view of the southern sky, and its usage is subject to the Fair Access Policy. Actual speeds vary based on the amount of traffic on the Internet, content on a particular Website, or by the overall performance and configuration of your computer. Stated speeds and uninterrupted use of service are not guaranteed. Actual speeds will likely be lower than the listed speeds during peak hours.
i use ftp and aim all day long and aim only disconnects for seconds at most ,if at all pop mail is something totally different if latency is high you just wont be able to connect. |

| reply to scobbz A private company that serves predominately rural areas around here. They've had tremendous success in the few years they've been in business and seem to be doing it right. They just recently expanding coverage to serve our area by leasing space on top of a grain silo.
