When we had purchased this house I was in need for these guys also but who to call? I got myself a free agent and they have a list of handy men or contractors who will call you up.
These contractors or companies have to pay to get your number it was $50 buck don't know now how much. So they'll call you or send you email. You can arrange to have a free going over what you need done. Each are licensed in the state of CT and are rated per skill and performance level an etc.
I had new steam boiler and gutters installed and bunch of other things done.
I use online service called: Service Magic
Let me tell you when you sign up for the free service was back then it should be a Contractor and Pros pay into to get the first bid on your project. That's how it works though.
On the gutters I had 4 owners come out here a the same time each had a private talk with me. I ended up going with the lowest price but the guy had his business for 20 years told me his son has taken it over he just gets the new business.
They installed the gutters without getting paid but I was on assignment so when I got back home sure enough old guy was there. I wrote them a check and they told me thanks, but the works was done by 3 men including his son. I had no gutters before and after I did. No leaks, they had to be custom design though because of my roof design.
But now all of these contractors are not going to be okay I had one guy who came in here installed pumping for my washer machine in the family basement and dryer outlet. He told $190 to do the job and he had purchased all the stuff. He never came back to collect his money, I don't know why but he did all the work in 1 hour even moved my washer and driver out of the garage to the basement family room.
This guy own a boiler service but I could never get him back on the phone. Oh well I gone with some other company that was in business for 60 years, they had send out 6 old guys from late 50 to 60s to install and get the new boiler going which had taken all day into the night because of a blown fuse. But the work was done professional I use them today for Heating Oil. You get 30 days to pay for the oil or in 10 days a discount. |

Now everyone wants me to help them lay in drywall. Pumping, painting, an etc. I can do even electrical. Counter-tops with marble need help with that once you cut it it's too heavy to lay down for one guy.
How come you don't go to Home Depot most there do work on the side. Still Service Magic, how did that go with the contractors who came over? I guess it didn't go so well? |

I had one come out here in his new sport car. He had asked me to take it for a spin. I said no, but he drove me around in it. Then on to I91 we go. We were going 130mph. Then coming back on the side roads he was driving over 65mph in 30mph. Still what an adventure to get me to sign on the dotted line. I told him I had to think about it and get back to him. He wanted $500 bucks to install a rear back door it had to be a custom job and had to order the special order door. I can't even get him to come back out. Oh well there are others that don't have to flash their expensive sport car at me. |
