Re: [HN7000S] new 'official' fap tool?

It also seems to all be based on Adobe Air.....no thanks....I do not wanna download "extra" junk.

Make a stand alone program please.Quit being cheap and lazy.

Also add a METER to the mix,not a bunch of colored dots.

I want to see NUMBERS...Upload and Download Monitoring in REAL time. This should have been done BEFORE they started selling service.
Also the law should have enforced this with such a strict FAP threshold, there should be a law stating that they need to provide a monitoring device/app.

For those who think different,go buy a car without a Gas Gauge and drive cross country. You'll change your mind.

A law might be a little excessive but yes they need to provide something besides a colored dot.

Just a gas gauge? It should be the whole dash replaced with 2 lights one for gas other for speed

I tried every zip code I could imagine they might have for me and it reported them all as invalid. I'm not sure that they will allow VAR customers in on this.

Has anybody on Win 7 been able to install the status meter thingy successfully? It either locks up my browser tab or I get a download error.

"And, with an upcoming software update, HN9000 users will be able to see their remaining allowance in real-time, so you’ll always know exactly how much data you have left. "

This is encouraging.

Check out the Fair Access Policy link on the page-
»services.hughesnet.com/service_t···ndex.cfm

"What is a Download Allowance?
The Download Allowance is the amount of data (in bytes) which can be downloaded by a subscriber without restriction within a rolling 24 hour period. As you download at a high rate, your allowance will be depleted. During periods of low use, your remaining allowance will slowly recover."

"How does the Fair Access Policy work?
The policy is implemented automatically by monitoring your usage over a rolling 24-hour period. Each HughesNet service plan is assigned a Download Allowance – when your usage over the past 24 hours exceeds that allowance, you will enter the Recovery Zone, and your download speeds will be reduced. During the Recovery Zone, your Download Allowance is slowly replenished, and after approximately 24 hours, your download speed will be restored. If you continue to use your service to download in the Recovery Zone, it may take more than 24 hours for your Allowance to be replenished and your speed to return to normal."

Is this the first time Hughesnet has this stated how the FAP works, I think it is.

"Does the Fair Access Policy apply to uploads or downloads?
Currently, the Fair Access Policy applies only to downloads – that is, data that you receive from the Internet. Uploads, for example sending photos in an email, are not counted against your Download Allowance."

"How does the Restore Token affect my Download Allowance?
If you redeem a Restore Token, your Download Allowance and rolling 24-hour period will be immediately reset, and your download speed will be returned to normal. In other words, you get a clean slate right away."

I think the bold part may be the first that they've recently acknowledged refill, at least as far as I know. If true, it could explain why we've had trouble nailing the recovery methodology down. If indeed it only recovers/refills during "periods of low use" whatever that means, we might have a situation where the refill rate isn't a constant.

So yeah, this is some good stuff.

I am sure they are using Adobe Air to keep you from reading the actual code.

rofl on my opening post, updating adobe FAP'd me

i am curious if the tokens are available... someone please post if you FAP yourself and use a token successfully... i would FAP myself, but i just called india yesterday to release fap, and i am scared

am i missing something, or is it RETARDED to put the these tokens and tools on a non-local site that will probably not load if subject to FAP? these tokens better get a spot on the control center next update... the hughes techs must have comcast at the NOC and dont think about this stuff

My Win 7 64-bit solution to install the usage monitoring tool was to install Air from the Adobe site then the HN monitoring tool would install fine. But then the thing wouldn't show up in the System tray even though the process was running; just no user interface. After a reboot it seems to be running just fine.

Is it just me or does the icon look like a blindfolded, sad smiley face..

That's what it looks like to me too! I have unchecked mine in msconfig until they get it updated to the "meter".
