said by CylonRed :I do not do any torrents or P2P on it at all, which is where a lot of the problems came from. I will have to try that. I wonder if setting lower limits in P2P clients would help. -- Ant @ »antfarm.ma.cx and »aqfl.net. Please do not IM/e-mail me for technical support. Use the forum! Question: When I first powered on my router, I remember seeing its Cisco Systems logo in white color, but now it's orange. Does that mean anything or only comestic? |

No hardcopy manuals, but no surprise. Hopefully, I don't need Windows to look for other goodies on it beside PDFs. I assume I don't need its software Windows utilities to access all features in router. -- Ant @ »antfarm.ma.cx and »aqfl.net. Please do not IM/e-mail me for technical support. Use the forum! | They might have included the product manual on the CD, however the disc is more functional as a coaster. Everthing can be configured throught the routers GUI anyways.
Note: SES adds the ability to connect wireless clients to the network automatically. SES is only available to SES compatible adapters.
Orange - SES functional but no clients are connected using this feature,
Flashing White - SES active and seeking clients (this occurs after the SES button has been pressed, this mode will last for up to 2 minutes),
White - SES has successfully configured a client to the access point. SES is only usefull if all of your other wireless devices support the feature. In a mixed device enviroment you will have to set things up the old fashion way but entering the key on all of the clients.
Using DD-WRT firmware the function of the button, and the lights can be changed, for example the button can be changed to turn the wireless radio on or off. |

Hence, why I never opened the CD envelope. OK so SES is useless to me with the stock firmware since I use a variety of wireless devices (many supports only WEP). I never saw SES mentioned either. -- Ant @ »antfarm.ma.cx and »aqfl.net. Please do not IM/e-mail me for technical support. Use the forum! | reply to Ian Re: My new Linksys WRT54GL router...
said by Ian :said by antdude :Really? What type of issues did you run into? What's the differences between Tomato and DD-WRT? Also, I don't want to have to keep updating often either. I only need a basic router like I had for Netgear RT311 and Linksys BEFSX41 v1. My WRT54G (not the GL...I bought my GL specifically to run 3rd party firmware) used to crash frequently and need a re-boot. It also used to keep half-open connections open forever. So if you were using something that was making and breaking a lot of connections, like P2P, the memory would overflow... FYI, no problems when running with three P2P clients (aMule/eMule, Gnutella, and OpenNap -- not downloading/uploading though), web surfing, downloading, IRCing, IMing, SSHing, newsgroups, etc. -- Ant @ »antfarm.ma.cx and »aqfl.net. For anyone who wants G2 (not getting one since I am happy with GL so far). »www.salescircular.com/ca/compute···np.shtml says CA's Best Buy has it for $59.99. I assume other states as well. |
