Screen not receving signal?

My dad bought a new dell and asked me for help setting it up. I have connected everything etc, power on the PC, power on the screen and I get a message saying "going to sleep". If I touch any of the buttons on the screen it gives me the message that it is not receiving any signal.

I have tested the screen with another PC and it worked fine.

When you power on the PC, by the sounds of it, it sounds like everything is booting correctly, not beeps etc. This is a new PC just out of the box.

Any help?

When you tested it, did you use the Dell video cable? or just swap monitors?

Do you even see the BIOS/POST/Dell logo when PC turns on?

Can you try Another monitor on PC?

Cant see anything.

When I get home today I will try another monitor on the new PC, even though the monitor works because I tried it on another PC.

If there is no 'Warranty void if removed' sticker or label, preventing access to the inside of the system, open the computer and check inside to verify all the cables are connected, especially the p4 and 20 or 24 pin connector. If either of these are not seated correctly, the system may 'power' but thats about it. maybe something didn't get hooked up correctly at the factory or something came loose during shipping.

outside of that, if you don't see any obvious reason for the system not starting, contact dell. They may void the warranty if you mess around with the system too much.

I would try using a different monitor first.

Used another working monitor and didnt work either. So here it is:

New monitor works with old PC.
New pc doesnt work with new or old monitor.

Obvious problem on tower. Will call dell and see if i can get a replacement. Thanks
