| Blu Ray Player will only play DVDs
I am looking at a Blu Ray player for a family friend. It will only play dvd discs, it will not play any blu ray discs.
The player is a Samsung BD-P1500. When he first phoned me I thought it just needed a firmware update, so I updated to the latest firmware but it is still giving the same issue. When a blu ray disc is inserted into the drive you can hear it start to spin up for a second or two then it stops. It will repeat 5 times or so until it finally ejects the disc and says it cannot be read.
DVD discs all work perfectly fine however.
Anyone of any thoughts on this? I'm suspecting that it is an actual hardware problem with the player, but am just wondering if there are any other things I can try before giving it back to him. |

| I'm certainly no "expert" , but I did just purchase a new Blu-Ray player, and Blu-Ray movie. Took it home, hooked it up, and watched the movie. It played perfectly. Tried one of my "regular" DVDs, and it played as well. Took the BD slightly longer to load, but it did.
Sounds to me like you have a defective unit, or may be a defective Blu-Ray disk. Might try a different Blu-Ray movie. If that still won't play, return the BD player and ask for your $$ back, or another player.
Good luck! -- Come fold for a cure with us @ Team Helix. It's easy, just ask! |

| I had a feeling it was a problem with the player.
He gave me 3 BD discs with it and none of them will play. However when I put them into my PS3 they play fine.
I'm gonna fight with it a little more today but I think I might just have to tell him there's something wrong with his player. |

| reply to atnozm First thing comes to mind is a firmware upgrade, »www.samsung.com/us/support/detai···BD-P1500
Some research in google or asking livesupport over at samsung may show it may not be a bad piece of hardware at all, then again it might be. Support is your friend, google is always helpful. good luck |

| Firmware upgrade is the first thing I did, it was what I thought the problem was with his player. He didn't know how to do it so I did it for him.
I never thought about livesupport I will check that out. I did google before posting here and didn't find much. Mainly firmware issues, of which I have already looked into that.
Posting here is more or less my last resort before I wash my hands of it. |

| reply to atnozm A family member has a BD-P1500 that just will not play certain discs. It seems to be very disc-specific. Any scuffs or scratches will prevent the disc from playing, and some seemingly clean discs also will not play. Others play flawlessly, however, except that for Blu-Ray discs you cannot stop the disc and restart where you left off. That feature only seems to work for DVDs. It is also running the most recent firmware. -- All hail JoePa |

| reply to atnozm I sold a friend of mine a Samsung BD-1500 and within 90 days, it quit reading or would only read BD intermitantly.
I have noticed similar performance from the BD-1600, and a few other Samsung models we have on display at work. One day they play fine, the next I have to spend 20 minutes inserting discs and rebooting the player before it will play. I try to stear customers away from Samsung BD players, the Panasonic, LG, and Sony players we have seem to load the discs faster and have fewer problems reading scratched discs.
I would see if you cant get it replaced/refunded and buy a different unit. We had a Panasonic on sale last week for ~$180 or so. I work at Sears btw. -- Im Your Boogeyman, Thats What I Am |
