| reply to glassr Re: [Windows] ADSL 4100 ft 900ms latency
If you ping is high only during that time then that is the cause but if it high during other times you will need to track down anything else that my be using all of the upload.
Maybe they should think about doing QOS so the Backup Traffic doesn't kill the line. -- ASUS M4A79T Deluxe | AMD Phenom II x3 720 BE AM3 @ 3.5Ghz(OC) | 4Gb DDR3 Memory @ 1600mhz | Sapphire ATI HD4870 1GB 800mhz/1000mhz(OC) | 2x500GB HDD's Raid 0 | Windows 7 Ultimate x64 Build 7600 (RTM) | Windstream DSL 12m (14.9m Sync)/766k |

| I was hopeful, but it turns out that the high pings are still happening throughout the day. Not just during backup. And, it it is not always. Certain times of the day (no pattern), ping times are excellent.
By the way, our SDSL has been awesome. |

| I'm wondering if something or someone is uploading something ( or P2Ping on a company computer) , you would need a way to monitor the bandwidth of the link to see.
I still say your network guys need to look at setting up QOS, and prioritizing certain traffic and de-prioritizing other traffic. -- ASUS M4A79T Deluxe | AMD Phenom II x3 720 BE AM3 @ 3.5Ghz(OC) | 4Gb DDR3 Memory @ 1600mhz | Sapphire ATI HD4870 1GB 800mhz/1000mhz(OC) | 2x500GB HDD's Raid 0 | Windows 7 Ultimate x64 Build 7600 (RTM) | Windstream DSL 12m (14.9m Sync)/766k |

| reply to glassr said by glassr :Our office IT people told me they run a backup of our servers over the internet to their office. The backup can take 4 hours or so every night. Could that internet traffic increase ping times to 4, 5, 600 or higher? Absolutely. I think you have identified your problem. |
