Velcom Single Link MLPPP not working for just HTTP

Velcom Single Link MLPPP not working for just HTTP

Hello,

I am hoping someone can help me here. I have Velcom as my service provider. I currently have the Linksys WRT54GL router with v1.25-mp3alpha6 firmware on it. I am using their Single Link MLPPP. The physical connection is strong and I never loose it. But as the connection remains active (in about 24 hours), i start to loose the ability to access websites. I can still download and ping websites. But I cannot load a website, some work and some don't. I get the same error as if i typed in an incorrect URL. If i reboot the router, the problem goes away but comes back quickly. If I disable Single Layer MLPPP, the connection is great for at least a week.

Does anyone know of any settings that I can tweak to try and fix this? I followed my normal setup (Port Fowarding, QOS, etc..) and i also followed this setup:
»mlppp.teksavvy.com/tomato_sl.html
to configure the Single Layer MLPPP
(Only I used a Velcom username)

Thanks in advance!

Are all of your advanced settings set to the default? The guide you used is incorrect when it says to change those settings.

I don't really have any other suggestions other than to try doing a reflash, full NVRAM reset (do not use any sort of config backup as that undoes the NVRAM reset), and try with the minimum changes; just your username/password and single link selected. Those are the minimum three changes needed to get connected with MLPPP.

That setup was specific to Teksavvy as I remember. Leave MTU and MRRU in "Automatic". And LCP Echo Interval should be 5, LCP Echo Adaptive Interval: 0.

I am with Velcom and don't have any problems.

P.S.
Outbound Rate: Max Bandwidth: 350 kbit/s
Inbound Rate: Max Bandwidth: 1500 kbit/s
I hope you know what you are doing here. AFAIK QOS does not work for Inbound. It just drops packets to achieve the desired max rate. But this causes retransmits, which makes things worse.

Thank you for the advice. I updated my advanced->misc section to reflect the changes above. I will let you know how these settings fair.

For my QOS settings, for inbound, that was a typo, it should be 5100, you are right, if i had 1500, it would only slow my inbound connections to that speed. But i have none set for the Classes.

I only want outbound QOS, but i have to have a value set in the inbound limit.

Thank you these values have made my http stable!
I have another question for you. I feel like my connection is being 'throttled'. Even though I am connected through MLPPP. As another Velcom customer, did you have to be put on a list or call them to add it to your account? When I activated my service the sales rep had no idea what MLPPP was.

It seems that my connection for downloads is limited to 40 KB/s from 5pm till 9am the following day.

I know with Teksavvy you have to be put on a ERX1 list. Do you need the same with Velcom?

Thanks!

No, I never discussed MLPPP with Velcom. I have used it from the very beginning without any prior arrangements. Are you sure it's throttling? I think the hours should be smth like 4pm to 2am. Anyway, I never felt like I was throttled.

What does Tomato show in the status screen? It should show MLPPP: Single Link. It may show "Failed". In Advanced settings I checked "Reject non-MLPPP connections", so it would keep trying until it establishes an MLPPP connection.

I do have "Reject non-MLPPP connections" selected and on the status page is says Single-link 1 of 1 Connected.

Roughly around 9am everyday my speeds jump to 150 to 250 KB/sec. But once i get home from work (around 6pm) downloads are capped at 40 KB/sec and stay that way till midnight. After midnight, i cannot tell cuz i went to bed

What program do you use to download with, maybe i have something setup wrong there?

When i am capped at 40 KB/sec. I try to reconnect and the new connection with an new IP is also capped at 40 KB/sec too.

Thanks for you help!

I use uTorrent, although not very often but never noticed throttling.

I am sorry, I figured out why my downloads were limited to 40 KB/sec. Somehow my download program was set to limit them at 40 KB/sec from 9pm to 5am. I switched it back and it works very well now. Thank you for your help!

People! We have enough trouble with Rogers and Bell playing tricks on us. Stop throttling yourselves...

Edit: at least show yourself the small print.
