You might want to consider not using ISP provided mail and get one or more free accounts on gmail. It's extremely reliable and you will have those addresses forever, even if you change ISPs in the future.

Hey Rich

While I am Mr Anti-AT&T and have issues with Yahoo Mail. I have to say that I have not had the connectivity issues you are having.

I'm not a Mac person so I cant offer any suggestions to solve your problem

But here is something I find to be hilarious - I just went to pay my bill online. I get to my account page and there is an "alert" message waiting - telling me that the emails AT&T are sending me to remind me that my bill is due are bouncing......

Those bouncing emails are going to my bellsouth primary email address. So it would seem that AT&T is having some email issues as well....:)

Cheers

Steve

Rich,

just want to let you know - you are not alone. With Bellsouth, there was never a problem with email. With the shift to ATT and then to Yahoo, email is not reliable any more. First, with nothing changing on my laptop, I get the messages that Outlook can't connect to the server. If I wait a few minutes or a few hours and don't change a thing (not even reboot windows ) and all of a sudden, connectivity is back - best I can figure, the email servers are so overloaded they can't respond back to the clients in a timely fashion and the client just times out. Next, is the delay in getting email. Messages are delayed from a few minutes to over 24 hours from showing in my inbox. (My unscientific poll is having folks send emails to both mine and my wife's account and watching when the emails show up in the inbox.) And unfortunately, it seems that a new trend is starting where some messages are not showing up at all.

While I hang on to my Bellsouth address since it has been with me a long time and many family, friends and collegues have it, I have started a transition to another email provider. It is going to take a while before I can stop monitoring my BS address. As GraysonF points out, the new email address will be portable.

Later.

My problems have started showing up again.

Just received an email from Oct 20 as well as one that was sent earlier this evening at about 7pm.

ATT would probably want to do with the email what they did with the newsgroups, and if they didn't need an email to sign you up and reference the account, I'm sure they would.

I have to start weaning my contacts to a portable address. Strange thing is that I have had email addresses with Yahoo since the day they began, and they have never missed. If I was sure ATT wouldn't get involved with those addresses, I would begin to use them again.

Yahoo! did not "join with AT&T". Originally, SBC contracted with Yahoo! to provide email service, and some other stuff, to SBC DSL customers. Then SBC bought AT&T. Then SBC changed the corporate ID from SBC to AT&T. Then the newly renamed AT&T (formerly SBC) bought Bellsouth.

Ever since they've been pushing the SSL ports (995/465) for POP3/SMTP access, some people have been having troubles. Eudora users, Outlook users, Mac Mail users. It is difficult to say if it is a Yahoo! problem, or a client problem. But I use two clients which are not as common as those I've enumerated above: Pegasus Mail (email program) and Mercury/32 (MTA). Written by the same author. And PM is very reliable, while such login problems as Mercury has reported are very rare, and do not interrupt the flow of email.

I don't really have any suggestions; but, having lurked in the Bellsouth groups since before they became, "AT&T Southeast", I got the impression that email wasn't always "wine & roses" in BS land.

Email was the one thing that BellSouth just never could get right. The DSL always worked good so I never held their email troubles against them.

BellSouth couldn't do email right if it would have saved their life. You could have held a gun to their head and said "Fix the email or I'm going to shoot you" and they would have said "Go ahead and shoot us to put us out of our misery".

I always had the feeling that they were working hard to fix it but they just was not having any luck.

I never had any problems with email while I was an SBC customer. After they bought AT&T? Still no troubles. After they re-branded from SBC to AT&T? Still no troubles. I ran into issues with the Yahoo! side of the deal when Yahoo! started making changes. I had been using 'smtp.pacbell.yahoo.com' as "Smarthost" until March, 2008. Then they made two changes:

• Name & port: to, 'smtp.att.yahoo.com:465'
• Required 'verification' of any email address other than the account used to log in

The latter was the "deal killer"; I went back to the legacy SBC servers because I needed a "Smarthost".

Re: Att/Bellsouth/Yahoo email.....

I've been with bellsouth 10 years...in the last 2 weeks, we started getting the error messages saying one of our computers was sending SPAM. I spoke to CS who sent me to their 'escalation dept'. The problem continues with constant TCP/IP errors, etc. I've spent over 3 hrs on the phone over the last several days and nothing works. Latest was to reset my winsock in DOS. Have done that and still constant errors. If I close out Outlook, it'll work, but then it starts with new errors. I was told I should buy the new MS Office Suite, since the Outlook 2000 is most likely no longer compatible. I'm going to start switching my email to GMAIL accounts and be done with the Bellsouth BS. All of my settings have been changed over and as far as they are concerned it's my problem not theirs...though have to say they are very nice when they're telling you they can't help. I just don't understand how everything is working fine one day and then 'Technology improvements' shut you down the next.

Re: [General] Yahoo email.....

Hello,

We are sorry to hear about your situation, AT&T webmail is now powered by YAHOO. I assume that you are using an email client-MAC Mail.

The correct settings for yahoo mail servers and port numbers are as of follows:

Incoming mail server: pop.att.yahoo.com
Outgoing mail server:smtp.att.yahoo.com

Incoming server port number: 995 with SSL
Outgoing server port number: 465 with SSL

Now if your MAC techsupport has not resolve your issues much better to use the yahoo webmail(www.att.net)

You got two email accounts,right?
one is with AT&T yahoo and the other is a third party email address.
Your email account with AT&T has been migrated to the new AT&T yahoo portal(www.att.net) and the old portal which was (www.webmail.bellsouth.net) will no longer work for you.

Since you are using email client, even though you have the correct email configuration in your Outlook it wont work because you need to be migrated first then you can send/receive with no problem as long as the settings in the OE is correct.

To migrate your account access this site »https://attreg.att.net/PortalMigrationTool/entry.do
now if there is an error call techsupport tier2 to help you out.
Thats simple but sometimes we encounter any error messages that we dont know then AT&T Tier2 will help you.
