| Slow me down...!
Hello,
We are an electronic manufacture and we have several customers who provide the testing application and the guidelines on how and what to test, their software was coded to work on DOS and Windows 95 and to run on CPU with less than 200Mhz.
A lot of the machines i had that were able to run those apps have broken due to heavy usage/age/electrical damage, etc. The customer refuses to update the applications because the original programmer left years ago and no one has ever bothered to update any of those apps, simply because they "work".
Finding older system boards and CPUs that are on working condition is extremely difficult and when you find it, they charge A LOT of money.
So i am trying to find a way to slow down current hardware. I have new system boards and CPUs and while google came up with 2 results i would like to know if any of you have used the following 2 apps and/or if you have any recommendations.

1 edit | The place I worked at, would provide the fixtures used to test our products that we farmed out. Seems like that should be a requirement for something so outdated!

Can you virtualize it? Vmware has a way to throttle the speed.
About the only thing I can't virtualize is direct hardware calls, like special controller cards. I had a bunch of software that required parallel port dongles, all I had to do is shove cards in and map the ports to the server. So if it's just software, I say go for it. |

| Cant virtualize it. Tried that last year. All this apps connect to different ISA cards, PCI cards, serial ports, etc.

I say virutalization also. ESXI lets you limit CPU And RAM and its free.
That's what pisses me off about Vista7 they act like XP mode is a new thing. We have been able to run VM's of XP inside of vista since day one. Granted the XP mode VM doesn't require a license key. |

MoSlo is the standard for those of us wanting to play old school non-flash dos games. Looking at the 4biz version I think that's what you're looking for.

Good luck finding a PC with ISA these days!
(My old company *might* have some collecting dust - tucked far away in a closet. There is a 100 or 200Mhz still running on the floor last I looked.)
Maybe not as hard as I thought! (Although unknown sites.)

If you want to try to get some replacement systems, check out government/state surplus stores (if there are any in your area). A lot of them will have old systems there that you can get fairly cheap. The one we have here typically will have quite a few low end PII's in stock. The people who frequent the stores go after PIII's and P4's for obvious reasons. The demand for PIIs is nearly non-existent. |

Well, that sucks.
If you happen to come to Dallas next weekend, there is the good old First Saturday Sidewalk Sale. A bunch of nerds sitting under a bridge selling old ass crap in the middle of the night. Pretty sure you can find as many PII's as you can haul. |

Pton, i had the same problem with a industral twin tape steel punching system. If i used a pc that was faster then 75mhz it would not punch .. if i used a slow enough pc it would. It also used ISA cards like yours.
Finding ISA PCs is not to bad .. i bought a bunch for backup from local computer shops .. very used, dirty and old.
Your best bet may be to ask an employee if they have a old pc laying around, and offer then a free upgrade to a P3 or old P4 in exchange for it. I did that also .. and got a few that way |

i have 5 or so 133 mhz systems laying round, i think they have cd drives as well, 1x. They have been in use until about 2 years ago as dns servers.32-64 ram i believe. if you want, $8 each + shipping. pm me if interested. I also might have some 233mhz and 400mhz xeons.
