I've been using TUU for awhile but never purchased it...got around to doing so finally after the hype you all have generated here...
and I must say...I'm disappointed. The layout is much worse. I also don't like the fact that it's going around and changing the priority of certain processes without asking me. Is there a way to turn off the "Live Optimization" stuff? |

Brooklyn, NY | I like it except when the automated service started to defrag my hard drives. I had to stop it and uncheck it the options to defrag. I don't need it to defrag since I use PerfectDisk 10. |

I thought this was pretty rude.
It also occurs in TuneUp 2009 after applying any build updates. It just starts 1 click maintenance even when I previously disabled it. Annoying! How often does TuneUp think I need to run their services anyways? |

TU 2009 drove me crazy with it's 1 click maintenance module. I remember when I installed it the first time, I wanted to image my drive before running any of the tools. All of a sudden I see the little balloon pop up that said 300 problems had been fixed. I'm like HEY STOP THAT!!
Tuneup 2010 seems more laid back in this regard. After installing it, I went right in and set the automatic maintenance for 2:15 AM. I also took the check mark out of "Enforce maintenance one week after this period if the computer was not idle long enough". I will most likely never have my PC on at 2:15 in the morning, so 1 click should never happen.
If you turn off automatic maintenance, then you don't get the nice feel good green check mark under Maintain system.......and that kinda bugs me. |

Is this version more "bloated"?
Does it have stuff running in the background that you can't shut off permanently? If so then I will stay with 2007/2009.
The reason that I (used to) like TUU is that it was not invasive and did not have stuff running in the background all the time "doing stuff for me". If it has become yet another ever growing program that just keeps getting bigger and bigger and creating more and more modules that are always running and doing things that I can't stop then I will pass.

I actually like this version better than 2009. I have been able to turn off everything that I needed to for meeting my needs. The registry cleaner in Tuneup is still the best out there IMO. |

Darn Tuneup ran automatic maintenance this morning. I have it set to run at 2:15 AM on Fridays. Since my system was not on then, it played catch up when I started it up this morning.
The "Enforce maintenance one week after this period if the computer was not idle long enough" is for the "idle" setting only under "Run automatic maintenance". If you take the check mark out of that, but have "according to schedule" selected under "Run automatic maintenance", Tune does a catch up automatic maintenance run on your system if it wasn't on at the scheduled run time.
If you have "idle" selected under "Run automatic maintenance" then for sure automatic maintenance will run because at some point your system will be idle.
The only sure way of keeping automatic maintenance from running is turn it completely off. But then you won't have a nice green check mark for that section. |

Hows about an option that says: "automatic maintenance disabled/manual maintenance only" Actually they do have a manual maintenance only. But, tuneup likes to warn you in a few places that it's on manual, and should be set to automatic.

I do believe I have discovered a simple work around for the automatic maintenance issue. If you want to keep the nice green check mark under "Maintain system" but don't want automatic maintenance to run, then do this.
Set up the automatic maintenance schedule for any time you like. See screeny! Then, go into Windows task scheduler, and simply disable the scheduled task. Even after doing this, the green check mark remains in Tuneup. I even tried it out, and no automatic maintenance was run at the scheduled time. I even rebooted, and the green check mark remained. |
