Re: Thermal Grease

Benchmarkreviews.com had a good write up/test on 80 different TIMs. They also did some testing on application procedures/patterns that are used:

Myself, I went from originally using Arctic Silver3 to currently using Arctic Cooling MX-2.

I wasn't aware there were so many ways of applying AS5. Silly me I read the directions.

Last installment:

I just installed an ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2 92mm with their stock MX-2 grease on it and the temps instantly nose-dived. It seems a complete surface coverage of the heatsink was the answer.

here are my temps of my i7-860 using an ACF 7 Pro hs/f.. this is at standard clocking with the turbo mode active, I will wait about 10 days for the as5 to settle before I try overclocking..

I've had my best results with Coollabs Liquid Metal, I put it in onion skin thin. However, it did corrode the copper and turned into a rough, non liquid form within a year.

I am now using AS5 which I applied perhaps a year ago or less, but temps are signicantly higher, very much so. When I get the nerve up to do so, I am going to try applying the AS5 in some different way.
