| Well Done, Ford!!
"Consumer Reports, in their annual initial reliability survey results released this afternoon, provides good news for Ford, which is perceived as offering quality and reliability on par with Asian automakers. Chrysler, on the other hand, dropped to near-Daewoo levels."
Looks like even the anti-domestic sources are finally admitting what's been obvious for years - Ford makes some great, reliable cars. I think they have a bright future.
Chrysler, though, seems like a lost cause.

1 edit | reply to UAW_30yr Jaguar was an independant company, owned by Ford.. Jaguar designers, Jaguar parts (except for when Ford started craming a shared-parts bin down their throat)..
The point is moot now anyway, because now Jaguar is owned my Tata.. a fate possibly worse than Ford..
At any rate, i'll put my 425HP Supercharged '09 XF against any of you Ford haters.. if i cant beat you on the street, i'll be you in 'style' --

| reply to UAW_30yr That's the good thing, is that they have always had good build quality. The poor thing has always been the available choices from them for a car. They've got a lot more going for them right now as far as newer cars go, and I think they started to recognize that having one small car (the Focus) was killing them. However, they have some more cars out recently. I don't like them personally, but they do have some better options. If they came out with a super eco car for commuters they'd like gain some more market share, abut likely all in good time.

| reply to TearAbite I guess that is subjective. The XF is nice, but it certainly does not stand out from many other cars on our roadways. I remember when you knew a Jag when you saw one. Perceived could very well not be reality....

| I normally do not care about styling - I have 2 Honda and neither are styling dynamos - although I really like the back end of the hatchback till they tried to make it smoother - mine is a '89 so it is a but more boxy.
I can't however get past the Mach 3 razor look on some of their models on the grill. It is just - horrible.... -- Brian

| reply to UAW_30yr Here is my "perception" of ford: old technology and style/Junk Here is why: One of my first cars was a 1985 Mustang GT.. the interior was plastic, all the knobs were big and clunky, and the radio had that cheap greenish LED display. However it was 1985, and it was all good
Around 1995 my mother inlaw bought a new Ford Thunderbird. I sat in the passenger seat and it was like i was transported back in time and was sitting in my 85 mustang.. EXACT same knobs on the dash nearly the exact same radio, even the dashboard itself looked exactly the same.
In late 2008 or early 2009 a buddy at work got one of those limited edition Shelby Mustangs.. 550HP, it was awesome.. I got in to go for a ride, and guess what - TIME WARP again! the interior, although changed slightly was STILL 90% the same as my 85 Mustang!
It's going to be hard to change my perception of Ford.. --

| reply to TearAbite TB,
Excellent point.
I used the Mustang as an example for my son at the OC auto show a few years ago. He was 11, and really starting to notice cars - Mustangs in particular. I had him sit in one, observe the interior features, touch things, listen to the door close. Then, I showed him Honda, Audi, Volvo, Mercedes. His eyes were opened.
Ironically, I seriously considered a Mustang when I made my last purchase. A Saleen. They rip out the interior, brakes, suspension and replace with quality stuff. Night and day. It still didn't measure up in other respects, but it's virtually a different car. |

| reply to No_Strings Interesting that you mentioned the doors closing. I have a friend who was considering a Mustang a few years back and had the same problem with the car. He said way the doors sounded 'cheap'.
I still love the car, but I've never driven or been in one. If I were looking to buy that type of car, I'd still check one out. Apparently the 2010 has been redone and I suspect it's much better than it's predecessors -- as are most Fords. -- "I've learned that depression is merely anger without enthusiasm." |
