Is this true, or do I have hope?

Hello to all.

I have been with sprint for about 7 or 8 years now. I have a family plan( always did). and for some reason the main line on my contract( my phone) always had unlimited internet and unlimited texting( before the phones really could take advantage of these features). So when I recently signed a new contract, All I had to do was pay an extra $8 a month to get unlimited data and 2000 texts on my second line. This came out cheaper then getting the everything family plan, Iam thinking this is great. Ok now its time to get the new phones, I got the htc touch pro 2 and the second line got the palm centro. I decide to return the htc because of all the palm pre hype( besides the htc was expensive to say the least).

I waited a month after the pre came out and decide to get my upgrade then, just to be told that I will not be able to get the phone because you can only activate the phone using the new data plans. "even though your plan has everything you need to use the phone" I was told theres nothing they can do about it they tried before for other customers ( this is what the representative told my in the sprint store). He said I wouldnt recommend you changing your plan( and I wasnt anyway) because your paying alot cheaper( and have way more free minutes) then the new plans offer. He said try and wait for the htc hero or the samgsung moment( because they were suppose to be good phones) and see if you can use those with your plan.

Now my question has anyone ran across this problem before? and if so is there anyway around it? Or is this sprint way of saying F You you already signed a new contract, get a new plan pay more money get less minutes we dont care?

any help appreciated

sorry for the long post didnt want to leave out any info.

You should have kept your expired contract. Then you are month to month with no obligation with the same terms. Once you renew the contract you fall under the newer rules - which are usually worst than what you had.

Whats the difference between the pre and pro? I need to find a way around this or just find a way to kick sprint to the curb. I didnt think going with the new contract will not allow me to get the newer phones. I knew my plan didnt support the blackberry services but I was willing to live with out a black berry but not every new smart phone.

you can buy a brand new Sprint phone of your choice off eBay and activate it online at »www.sprint.com/mysprint . I've done it many times. I have several I can swap at anytime.

Or is this sprint way of saying F You
Palm Pre activation has always required the Everything Data plan. There's at least two reasons: 1) they think they can get it, 2) Pre users would be expected to use more internet resources than other phones so they need to recover costs and add margin ... it's the same concept as the BlackBerry upcharge. Most of the other data intensive phones are requiring the Everything Data plan. Times change ... back when you (and I) got our family plans, our data stuff creeped along if it worked at all. Now it's much more functional, and Sprint needs to make a return on the network investment that makes that happen. If you don't like that, and you just want call minutes, they have a full line of other phones that don't require the Everything Data plan.

Thanks for the replys everyone. Well I ended up biting the bullet and changing to the everything data plan. What I lost... 500min a month and have to pay an extra $20 a month( not counting the higher taxes because of the higher monthly rate). But I was able to get a 15% discount( because of a discount my company is suppose to get(or the company I told them I work for). its suppose to go through in next months bill). so thats not so bad. also I was told theres no more mobile to mobile or free nights and weekends. Because of the new unlimited mins to any cell phone carrier. But you will use your mins when you call a house phone, your own voice mail or whenever your out of the sprint network( while your roaming). so all in all its not so bad as long as that discount goes through.

ps. I went with the samgsung moment. not a bad phone. but I can only wonder if the hero is a better phone( I rather the slide out keyboard thats what made me go with the moment .

You must have that wrong, I have the Everything Family Data plan and I have nights and weekends and because of the new Any Mobile, Anytime option that comes with Everything plans, I don't pay for calls to other provider networks. It says so specifically in the plan description and the sales reps inform you of it whether you already know about it or not.

What plan do you actually have?

I have the Everything Data Family. Maybe the sales rep made a mistake. I have to check out my plan details. because I even see on their website says unlimited nts/weekends starting at 7pm is included. So I hope the sales rep made a mistake or Iam about to do some heavy complaining
