15/10/2009 - LIGHT SHOW TO CELEBRATE THE 120 YEARS OF THE EIFFEL TOWER
In honor of this memorable anniversary, the Eiffel Tower is inviting Parisians and visitors in the Capital to join in the festivities of this innovative light display.
For the first time, relying on state-of-the-art LED spotlights, the Trocadero facade of the Tower will light up in color, movement and modulation offering a magical and awesome show.

Dozens of tall buildings by the river all lit up with a mix of neons and LEDs. Quite the light show. Look it up on YouTube there's many videos. Much more spectacular in person though!  |

LED's are optimally designed to be on & off repeatedly.
They run hot, so I doubt this display will go a Summer.
The computers are minimal to control them. you have
more sophisticated control of your own LCD screen pixels
which total far more than all the LED's on the Eiffel Tower.
Most Probably the hardest part of the job was getting some
hazard pay electricians to climb naked steel and wire it up. |

said by Packeteers :They run hot, so I doubt this display will go a Summer. Depends on the power you're trying to put into them and how efficient the thermal characteristics are to remove the heat.

It's a light show with 400 spotlights. The the distances, the color, the optics involved, in addition to the electroluminescent effects make it a bit more of a challenge than a 20" LCD right in front of your face.

Yes, you can control the logic pretty minimally, where the hardware comes in, is the driving the optics.
Driving a pixel at microamps is an entirely different animal than PWM a RGB LED at an amp or three
Plus the gobos, pan-tilts, and data infrastructure, and whtever else they added.
Yup, probably pretty serious hardware.
