| I'm bailing in a little over a week
It has been a good ride WOW, but I have to leave you for Comcast.
You are just not keeping up anymore. My brother-in-law just got Comcast and I could not believe how much better the TV service was. Nice DCX3400 HD/SD DVRs, Tons of On Demand, lots of HD, Powerboost (great for my internet usage), Phone with VM I can access via the web, nice program guide. I wish WOW would keep up but I know they are the little guy. If Comcast was not beating them on PRICE as well as features, I might stay but they would really have to undercut them hard. $99 per month for 2 HD DVRs, one digital box, 8/16 PowerBoost Internet, + phone is just too tempting to pass on. Sure, it could go up by $20 after a year but we all know how to negotiate that stuff. I have to do it every year with WOW too. Plus I can now get Little Einsteins On Demand for my son, now.
I called my brother's Comcast rep this morning. BAM, he was here at 7PM tonight to sign me up and gave me his personal cell to call if I ever need anything once I am signed up. WOW could take a lesson from these guys. My number will be ported and everything should be done by the 1st week in November.
My rep. said he heard WOW is losing ~2,000 customers per day to Comcast. Hope they can do something to survive and keep competition alive.
It has been great, WOW, but you need to keep up with the times. You need to WOW us!
Good luck to you all here in the forums. It has been great conversing with you! |

| comcast starter or preferred / classic? if starter then if wow full digital you may end up with less tv channels.
and how did you get 2 HD DVR at that price?
$114.99 is the stating point for Triple Play with plus / preferred at $139.99 and the HD dvr are any from $10 /m to $20 /m each. You bill may go up more like $20-$30+ after a year. |

| reply to Clocker1000 It's Digital preferred. Forgot to mention I also have HBO, Starz and Encore (part of this package deal). The sales guys that come to you have deals not available online or if you call. He can get discounted pricing on lots of stuff. He told me to call him if I need additional hardware or channels later and I can get discounted pricing on it.
The base package I got is $89.99 per month for the Digital Preferred Triple Play + HBO, Starz, Encore. It comes with one DVR (same box is either HD or SD) and 2 more digital boxes. Since I wanted two DVRs instead of one, my monthly rate is $99.99. Contract states monthly rate won't increase by more than $20 per year.
He also instructed me to call him if I had any customer service issues and he could take care of me since he has direct access to the support people. |

| reply to Clocker1000 I have had Comcast for over a year and very happy. It's nice to watch Hockey Night In Canada in HD (rebroadcast on the NHL Network HD) instead of in SD on the Canadian channel.
Internet has been fine up to last week. Going to sort that out soon. The speeds are great still even with the issue. Never seen these throttling thing and Comcast is going to roll out VOD on the Internet. |

join:2002-05-06 00000 | reply to Clocker1000 Someone stopped by my parents and gave them a sheet offering a similar deal. Seems like Comcast is getting more aggressive in trying to get new customers, or old ones back. Hopefully WOW can respond, and meet the competition. |

| reply to Clocker1000 If I was a big guy on DVRs/HD channels I'd probably agree with you on comcast vs wow. Don't get me wrong, I love my HDTV and wouldn't give it up for the world. However I use the 'net for most of my content, so I'm much more particular about internet than cable.
If comcast hadn't already shown a willingness to use shady filtering tactics, as well as put a cap on accounts-I'd probably be with them as well. However, I love me some usenet, and I'd rather not be stopped from downloading the obscene amount of media I do =/. |

| reply to Clocker1000 I don't think WOW could possibly be losing 2,000 customers a day to Comcast. If they were, they would be out of business in just a few weeks...they don't have that many customers to being with.
As far as products go, I was always happy with Comcast when I had them. However, when I had a problem with anything...it was a nightmare trying to get it resolved in a timely manner. That is the sole reason that I left Comcast for WOW. Even if I pay a little more or get a little less....it's worth it in the end for me to get better service when I need it.
For many people they won't hopefully experience the problems with the Internet that I saw with Comcast. I would get periods of 40% packet for for 6-8 weeks about 2 times a year that they never were able to track down without sending about 15 trucks to my house and eliminating everything in the house. Of course, this never actually turned out to be the problem. But try to convince them of that.
Oh well, hopefully WOW stays in business...I would hate to be forced back to Comcast simply because I had no other options. (the way it is for many people). |

Both sides loose lots of customers each day so it all kinda balances out.
Some time next week I'll be riding on Comcast pipes.
My WOW promo is over and they simply will not be able to match the services I will be getting with Comcast for the price I'll be getting, thanks to Clocker1000 .
WOW is a great company and I wish them well, but they just can't stay competitive enough for people like me. |

I have digital with WOW, a single HD DVR, a standard digital box, the 15/1 internet service, unlimited phone, and I have HBO, Starz and Encore and my monthly bill is and has been $181 for quite some time now.
And the only time WOW has lowered my price is when I noticed that after the faster internet speeds came out that all of their packages had reduced in price. I called them on it and they lowered my price. |

| I had 6/1 internet, Digital cable & 2 DVRS for about $90 on WOW.
There has been a few more PPV spent on CC and I am averaging ~ $130 with similar equipment. (HBO instead of Starz) Closer to $100 without PPV.
Each are different, but for what I use, not that different. --
