| 1999 Nissan Altima -Odometer stopped working...
My Odometer stopped working for few weeks now.
Am told I would have to replace the entire cluster!(and not just the Odometer)
How much should I expect to pay for parts and labor?
Is it worth it to buy 'used' cluster online and have it installed elsewhere? |

You may have a bad speed sensor at the transmission, or a loose wire.

Speedometer works.
A local mechanic advised me that this comes as a sealed unit and basically, I would have to replace the entire cluster. |

| If the speedo works, then that diagnosis procedure posted earlier is not useful.
Although I don't know all the intimate details about that vehicle, it seems clear that the problem is in the cluster.
About parts availability, I can't comment. Some vehicles do have (new) parts available to repair the cluster.

It's not a 'sealed unit' in the least;
You can buy each individual part from Nissan, but it's rather costly. Personally, I'd get a junkyard cluster that's relatively close in mileage, or something off of the NICOclub classifieds. |
