Does anybody know when Bright House will have DOCSIS in Tampa? I feel the need for more speed then 2 meg upload and FiOS not yet available? |

1 edit | reply to garycampau And don't hold your breath. They may not have said it publicly, but BHN Tampa Bay seems to be content just milking their existing cash cow. They cannot compete head-to-head with FIOS and they know it, so they put out misleading propaganda claiming to be "the fiber leader", and their phone reps tow the company line. (see my post at »RANT: Sales Idiots = Liars )
They may have lost a bunch of accounts to FIOS, but they'll always retain enough to be profitable.
Don't expect any significant upgrades until they absolutely have no other choice. |

I have had my Brighthouse account (formerly Time Warner) for about 10 years or more and have had No issues what so ever. Yes the TV that they offer SUCKS big time and why I dont subscribe to it, only internet. |

Verizon could have continued milking their existing copper plant by deploying new xDSL technologies over it-- like AT&T is foolishly wasting their time doing with U-verse. But they decided to look toward the future, break open the piggy bank, and do what no other mainstream ISP dared to do-- FTTP.
Their competitors didn't force them to do it. They did it to gain a MAJOR competitive advantage, not to play the "me too" game. |

| And their growth has slowed dramatically because of it. Their cost per household is ridiculous and it's not even a guarantee that each person will become a customer.
Verizon is definitely future proofed, but FTTP is unnecessary and likely will be for quite a while.
Bright House in CFL (tampa is usually ahead of CFL) began upgrading UBRs in 05 or 06 and are finishing up the transition to 1ghz plant. I'm not sure if they have yet or not but they are also going to switched digital stream as well. Basically what it means is that the most popular channels will be remain as they are now, constantly pushed through the line. The less popular channels will be 'switched' as they are called upon. This opens up bandwidth over the cable lines and allows for a higher speed internet product.
so yes, bright house has already completed the majority of their upgrades to be ready for docsis 3. Tampa generally sees everything first because they have direct competition from FIOS. Orlando has almost no competition. Some areas have Comcast, most don't. Some have U-Verse, but not all. And in terms of internet, U-verse is hit or miss as to whether it's faster or not.
FWIW, ATT"s upgrades made their network somewhat similar to cable. Fiber to the node, copper from the node to the premises. Just happens to be a smaller copper link (coax vs. telephone, sorry I forget the designation for telephone line). |
