| Booster Kills Connection speeds.. help !
I have looked everywhere for similar problems, I really hope someone can point me in the right direction.
I use a UM150 modem with a cheap external antenna and receive a signal between -83 & -89.. average speeds are 350 up and 30 down.
So I buy a wilson adjustable 60 gain booster , indoor dome, and outdoor yagi.. When I plug the booster in my signal increases to -75 db, then out of no where vzmanager says the device cannot be detected and my connection speeds drop to 25-40 kb up and 25 kb down.
I adjust the gain thinking maybe I'm over boosting.. I even turn the booster off and just use the antennas.. same thing.
If I bring the signal in at all with the yagi or booster or combination of both I have issues.. as soon as I unplug it all and plug the external cheapy back in , I go back to -84 to -89 and my speeds level back out ..
If anyone has any ideas please help, I'm all ears.. I even considered we were still on 1900 frequency but I ran a diagnostics and vzman shows 800 .. tried pointing yagi to different tower and same thing..
btw.. I have 2 towers, one 5 miles and the other 7 miles..
Thanks in advance for any thoughts or ideas to help me out.. |

1 edit | Wireless amplifiers kill upload and download speeds , Direct connect amplifiers work best with data. This is because data signals and voice signals are transmitted in different patterns . Wireless amplifiers are made for voice signals. Your RSSI on signal can increase with a wireless amplifier but it actually hurts your upload and download speeds on your data device. -- www.MaximumSignal.Net |

Just to clarify, are you saying if I loose the dome antenna inside and run a cable from the amp to the card it should work ?
Thanks again.. |

| Do not do that ,You could damage the amplifier and the card. Send the wireless amplifier back , Get yourself a much less expensive direct connect amplifier ( like a CA819)( lol). You will get much better results and put some money back in your pocket. -- www.MaximumSignal.Net |

| ok, perfect. I thought that might cook the card. I use a small 3 db gain direct connect antenna on another card in the barn and it seems to work well. I've seen them as high as 11 db gain so maybe I'll look into those.
Thanks a bundle. very helpful |
