[WIN7] What happened to logging a locked account out?

In XP, you were able to log in with an admin account and log a user out who is logged in with a locked desktop.

I don't see that option in Win 7. The only option I have is to use Fast User Switching. Any ideas?

Can you not still do it from the task manager?

Yep its in Task Manager. I've attached some screen shots of an Admin level user giving some peon account the boot.

Now can a peon give the boot to an Admin level user?

Nope

And now for fun sending a 'typical' Admin type message to a non admin 'Standard User'.

Again a peon can't send messages/bother to an Admin level user

Ok, I think I am getting it but check this scenario out:

John Doe is logged in to the domain. John is a regular user without admin rights in the domain. John locks his computer.

Jim John is an admin in the domain but never logged into the machine. Does Win 7 allow Jim John to use his credentials to log John Doe's lock machine out even though Jim John never logged into the machine before to create a profile? In other words, does Jim John get prompted to use Task Manager at the locked screen or someway enter his credentials in to log the machine out as an admin?

The above is similar to what Windows XP allows you to do.

I haven't used Windows 7 in a domain yet, but my understanding is that when you're joined to a domain, like XP, the Welcome Screen goes away and you get a standard login box where you enter your username/password.

Are you seeing different behavior?

I saw a login box. It looked totally different than the Win XP login. I know.....I have to get beyond the Win XP look.

Seriously, is Switch User supposed to be enabled on a domain? If so, this may be the new way you could unlock desktops (as noted in the screenshots above).

I see a couple of Win 7 books in the future for me as I have to create the Win 7 desktop images for our models. So much fun!

While I don't have a domain system here to confirm this, but I believe the Switch User feature would be available for the Admin to log into the system and then from there punt the other user when the Admin goes into the User tab on the Task Manager.

im in process of testing w7 at work (unofficially haha!).
i just tried it on this netbook. you need to hit switch user and then youre staring at the standard log in screen. i didnt want to boot myself off of this thread but i dont see any reason why i couldnt log me out as admin if id wanted to.

Ok, I follow now. The Switch User option + logging out the user from the User tab in Task Manager replaces the logging in with an admin account to log the locked desktop out.

I am good, fellas. Thank you....could always count on DSLR to provide the answer or at least point me in the right direction.
