1 edit | would be nice to have a bit of consitancy in my internet....
Are we merged yet? I have been in the back and forth with Alltel since June over service quality. my last go around with tech support resulted in being told "wait till October, all would be good" and still am not happy.
First, let me explain my situation. I live in a rural area of Michigan that has been selected to be divested due to the merger. However, since I purchased and activated my card in Grand Rapids, NO ONE at Alltel understands why I would want to use the divested PRL, so once every couple weeks, I get pushed the new PRL and signal strength drops to the mid -90's RSSI. Yet the wife's blackberry (also Alltel) shows full bars at EVDO. So I force the old PRL (40044, Divested Market PRL) and signal strength does come back and I get EVDO most of the time.
The Equipment: UM175 Aircard running on a Cradlepoint MBR1000 router with a Cyfire 819A amplifier and a 34" Yagi Antenna. The Antenna is aimed to the tower that gives me the best signal Strength, and the tower is only 7 miles away. Antenna is mounted on the roof of a 2-story house, High on a hill, and solidly grounded. I get a strong -75dB EVDO signal about 40% of the time with this setup. The problem is, the rest of the time, my connection is like this
Edit: Stanton is less then 60 Miles physically from my house, so the 200 miles is either a miscalculation , or I am pulling off a tower some 150 miles away ( which is not even remotely possible)
As I have spent well over $1000 dollars on equipment (2nd Aircard, 2nd Router, 3 Antennas, Amplifier) I am extremely hesitant to spend more money. All I want is a stable, dependable internet connection as all other forms of broadband are non-existent (satellite tried and even less happy with)
Basicaly, Alltel advance support has told me, once Verizon takes over my area (We got our letter today letting us know that we will be divested as soon as a purchaser is found so that isn't going to happen) connection will improve. And since they classify us as fringe area (the previous 13 months before June when everything went to hell not withstanding) service is questionable at best and I should just wait for Verizon to take over my area (which as a divested market, ISN'T GOING TO HAPPEN) I have tried all PRL's from 40042 to the new 40055 and have found the best signal with the 40044. I have also tried the Verizon PRL's and still haven't found one better then the 40044.
Any suggestions would be much apreciated |
