| Telus high ping between 730 and 1130PM?
Been getting REALLY high pings between 730 and 1130PM lately (last few weeks)
Called Telus tech support and he told me to plug it into the router directly, ping didn't go down. He also told me to do a Speedtest and my speeds were fine (High speed enhanced 3.0) I got around 2.7 but my ping to the server during that time was 337 and the server was located in Vancouver.
Anyone have any theories as to why the ping is only like this between 730 and 1130PM?
I live in Richmond in case you're wondering. |

| reply to anthonee1230 Well problem is normally my pings to Chicago servers are around 109 - 120ms in TF2 and during that period of time starting maybe about 2 weeks ago the pings were around 200-250ms.
The thing is ALL my pings are that way and directly connecting to my router does nothing to fix it (I've even gone as far as reformatting Windows to ensure that Spyware and viruses are not the problem)
Like when I do a speedtest on the Vancouver speedtest server, I usually get around 100-120ms ping, but during 730 - 1130PM I get around 300-350.
When I speedtest the Richmond servers my pings are ususally 40-50ms, and during that period of time they are 100-120ms.
So ALL of my pings are much higher than they should be.
Could it be possible that Telus is routing ALL my traffic in some strange way. Surely this problem can't be on my end? |

@telus.com | They're not going to randomly route your traffic differently between 730 and 1130pm.
when it happens during a certain time its usually saturation somewhere. |

Website loading isn't as responsive as usual either during this time. |

I'm on fiber but you can see we follow the same sort of pattern. Looks like their peer routers are having problems. |

1 edit | reply to anthonee1230 I'll post again later tonight, the pings will be SIGNIFICANTLY lower, I'm almost sure of it. 'Cause my gaming pings are always lower around 1130 now. Was fine two weeks ago =\
Oh, and internet speeds are within normal limits, around 2.6-2.7Mbps Down and 0.6-0.7 Up |

| reply to anthonee1230 Hey I'm experiencing the exact same thing. I'm going to give Telus a call right now and see what they say. When I do speedtest at speedtest.net the ping is up to 150-200 ms for the Vancouver server. After 11pm-11:30 it drops back down to normal like sub 30ms. |

Where abouts in Richmond are you anthonee1230? I'm near the Lansdowne area. |

1 edit | reply to anthonee1230 I've been having similar issues for a couple weeks now - often during peak evening hours I get extra latency across the board. servers in town that usually give single-digit pings get up to 100+, google goes from 50-80 up to 150-300. Tracerts always show a ping jump on a telus-owned IP, typically close to the peering handoff point indicating a fairly wide problem (non-localized). Haven't bothered calling it in because, as others have mentioned, it's pretty pointless.
