| [Help] Wireless N F5D8236-4
Hi, im having a few problems with my new router. I purchased it to replace a linksys wireless g that actually ran pretty well for me. I could play games online and even host rooms and my connection held up pretty good. It was fast and satisfied my needs, besides needing to reset it every now and then and other stuff. I have had that router for 3 years and decided to upgrade because of more computers being connected to the network. I have 2 xbox's, 4 laptops, and a desktop connected. When I had my linksys hooked up, it ran fine and never had to many problems. I bought a netgear wireless n at first, but had to restart that every morning and I felt I wasn't getting the right speed. I could no longer host online games, and it took longer to load pages. I returned that and bought this belkin because of all the good reviews on it. PROBLEM- I don't feel i'm getting the right speed out of this router as well. I went into the settings and even changed to to 20 and 40 hz mode, but still not loading that fast as I expected a wireless n to. Its a lot slower than my linksys was, but this is even going wireless n! By the way, I am even on a macbook that I purchased in june, so I know it has the compatibility to use wireless n. Is there anything I can do to improve the speed and connection of this router? It hasn't really been loading pictures well either for some reason on the internet, and I am also getting disconnected from xbox live randomly. I know this is a wall of text, but Im hoping I could get some help with this as I would deeply appreciate it. Thanks you -Justin |

| Try these three tips:
1) Verify for certain the router and adapter are both 802.11N products. Ensure the router has 802.11N mode selected. If you have issues with mixed mode, try locking the 802.11 mode to 802.11N only.
2) If you are using encryption the router must be configured to use AES. Selecting WPA2 only will force this cipher type.
3) The channel width needs to be set to 20/40 auto like you previously did. |

@charter.com | reply to dslfanboy Your second tip is the only one I am uncertain of. My security mode is set to WPA/WPA2-Personal(PSK) and my authentication is set at WPA-PSK+ WPA2-PSK so I think that it is not set to just to WPA2 only. |
