| Westell Model G90-610015-20 Revision E and WRT54GL v1.1 Help
Hello
I recently signed up for DSL service through Verizon, and I received a Westell 6100G (Model G90-610015-20 Revision E) in the mail to connect to their service. It didn't take long to work out that the unit included a router, and that it was an incredible pain to use.
I then purchased a Linksys WRT54GL (v1.1) hoping I could disable the router included in my Westell modem and instead use the linksys. I had read a lot about DD-WRT and decided to flash the router with v24 preSP2. All went well.
I tried attaching the router between the Westell and my personal desktop. The router did not pick up anything from the Westell, however this was before I did any reading. I've found a plethora of threads both here, and on linksys forums and others all in regards to the WRT54G/GL and Westell modems (through many different ISPs).
I made progress by setting the Westell to bridge mode, turning off the DHCP server within the Westell (making it a 'dumb' modem), making the WRT54GL clone the MAC address of the Westell, and in the Setup tab in DD-WRT I was actually able to get the WAN IP to show up as my public IP (when I was directly connected). So, the router was actually pulling information from Verizon. However, I wasn't able to browse anywhere, even by IP.
My connection with Verizon is DHCP, not PPPoE, so many of the posts and walkthroughs do not apply to me. I don't understand why it would be pulling connection information from Verizon and yet...not connecting. The connection is fine when it's directly connected to my computer, and I can run NAT behind NAT using an old (albeit shoddy) Motorola BR700 router.
I do not want anything to do with the router included with my Westell. I just want it to get me to the internet, everything else I'd rather handle myself.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks. |

@verizon.net | reply to WestellHelp Yes, I've tried that walkthrough and the farthest I've gotten is getting the Linksys to pull a public IP, but being unable to browse, even by IP. |

@verizon.net | reply to WestellHelp Yes. After I put it in bridge mode it no longer pulls any kind of IP information, even directly connected to my machine. |

| reply to WestellHelp Upon further examination I just decided to reflash the router to the default firmware and return it for a refund. Westell and Verizon have made it such an incredible pain to deal with that it's just not worth my time.
Thanks Westell & Verizon. |

| reply to WestellHelp If you would complete the installation with the Westell, the network will then program the approved site list in the Westell 6100 to allow full Internet access. Once completed, you can then put the Westell into bridge mode and use your dd-wrt'ed Linksys. |
