| Slow WOW Cable Internet Speed - Warren, MI
I seem to be having ongoing frustration with slow connections. About 3 -4 times out of 10, I get a connection time out. I'm supposed to have the higher speed service ??8 Mb???
Just ran speed test here (Saturday 10/10 @ 11 AM) & got: Download = 2.1 Mbps Upload = 1.1 Mbps
Do these sound like they are acceptable? They don't to me but before I complain, I would like to hear what others in the area are experiencing.

Do a few trace routes and pings to see if there is packet loss. Many things cause packet loss, from something along WoW's network (CMTS, HE), squirrels chewing wires, bad splitter, poor signal strength, failing modem, failing NIC, improperly configured TCP/IP stack.
Most common is a bad wire/connection somewhere between the pole, and house.
Have you called WOW yet? Also check your upper channels and VOD on the TV. The digital channels/VOD seem to be subject to blocking and freezing when there is a line issue as well. |

| Thanks for the reply Disturbed.
I just did a "Line quality" test which came back with 0% loss latency 34ms. Tried to do a "Tweak" but that tool is down at the moment.
To answer your question - no, I haven't called WOW yet but it's being moved up to the top of my "to do" list.

| reply to rckowal I just recently acquired this problem TODAY. 10/11/09
I am in Roseville, MI
Earlier today, I was getting full speed. Now I am getting about 1.5-2.0 up and 1.1 down. So it sounds like its a problem on their end. I have tried everything, even accessing the modems advanced menu. Its frustrating. I will wait and see if it resolves itself before I call. |

@wideopenwest.com | reply to rckowal Shelby Township - 1.1 to 1.5 download tonight. It's usually 8.
Feels like dial-up - much too painful to use - will probably be better tomorrow. If not, I'll be screaming and hollering!!! |

Speakeasy.net Speed Test
Chicago Server - 7943kbps down 1106kbps up
I will note that my modem did reset itself and the speeds gradually went up and up, however upload was always normal. |

| reply to rckowal Thanks all for sharing data. I checked speed again several times yesterday as well as 8:45AM today, Monday. No change here - downloads are consistently about 2 M & uploads are 1.1 M.
I called WOW Customer Service yesterday to complain. Agent sent an update to modem & said to re-test. I did but no change in speed. Modem update however appears to have helped in reducing my time outs.
Question for those who reported 8 M downloads. What service are you paying for? I thought I bought 8 M but was told I'm paying for 2 M. |
