no wild conspiracy theories this time?

wait about 45-60 minutes and call in. if theres a known issue, they should have some info by then, or at least some other callers to be confident enough to say there is an issue.

closer to the keller side and no problems at all. happened to me a couple weeks ago and was a line leak...although i'm sure yours is still probably charter's install website trying to attack your internets.

Acually no im not logging anything from the install.charter website.

But what i am haveing a problem is is any show up on fox.com that i watch. I cannot watch.
Odd thing is i went to watch kitchen nightmares and i can watch that show. Ok so i try and go watch house it wont work.
SO i go back to kitchen nightmares and it would not work.
so i get a new IP anad i can watch kitchen nightmares agian.

Very Very Odd.
Also cannot watch bones ,lie to me, frindge

The last time this odd behavior happen i finally got a IP that i have never had before. And every thing worked as it should.

now i cannot get a new IP for **** i keep going though the very same ip's no matter what i try.
there is 7 of the ip's

any ideas????

speeds are fine now.

edit:

Now that I have a brand new Ip that i have never had before
everything seems to be working as it should so WTF??

All that was needed was to get a new ip.

So what is going on that makes stuff break with all the other ip's that i can get and have used before ??

really makes me wonder what is going on Is those Ip's in question getting corupted??
If so what is corrupting them??
Is it the charter router they reside on getting corrupted firmware??
Or is it that someone filtering stuff that I do online ??{perhaps someone has access to somthing on charter's head end that is not suppose to have access to}

I'd suggest connecting your PC direct to modem, bypassing your firewall and multiple routers, and testing if that works.... but that's a lost cause.

So Good Luck!!!

BTW, thinking that IPs are "corrupted" or Charter has a router with "corrupted" firmware or someone has access to Charter headend gear and the ONLY thing affected is video streaming from certain sites is really the wrong troubleshooting path.

You should first duplicate the problem with a basic, clean, trustworthy setup, which you don't have. As a tech I'd bring in a laptop booted off a Linux live thumb drive or CD and connect it straight to the modem. If I duplicate the issue I look at the modem and upstream, but if the problem is gone look at everything connected downstream of the modem.

First of all what the hell would a infected system have to do with just a few vids??

Second of all How is it changing Ip's to one i have neve had resolve the issue.
If the problem was with my network or my computer then changing IP's I would have had the same problem.
Third of all I do have a clean setup and network!!!!
Fourth of all i think your just phishing for information.
I notice you are posting from a RR conection which i get plenty of blocks from Maybee your the one that is bot netted.

And I see you did not comment about hthe 71. ip hmm.

1st. Nobody ever said YOU were infected.

2nd. Changing IPs also brings with it new gateway and DNS IPs among others. It's possible your complex firewall/router setup is unintentionally blocking something important or related to your problem, like particular IPs, domains, or ports.

3rd. Your setup may be clean to you, but it's not basic and not trustworthy to others for troubleshooting.

4th. I didn't see anyone asking you for info. In which case, it's unlikely to be phishing.

5th. Doesn't matter where another poster is from or if they are bot netted, it doesn't affect YOUR problem.

6th. The 71. IP has no relation to your problem. static.unknown.charter.net appears to be a default name for Charter equipment that isn't named more specifically. That explains all the IPs associated with it.

Oh yes RR User said this

Looks like They said i was infected to me.

Yea no kidding but i have the same gateway and i only use open dns dns servers. Except i did use a couple of level3 dns servers for trouble shooting.

Ok if my complex setup was blocking somthing it would have continued to block it even after i got a new ip.
Using smoothwall as a router lol.

Basic has nothing to do with it when I get a new ip and it works but would not with the old one.

How does the 71. have no realtion it is still hitting my connection going on 12 houirs solid about every 3 seconds or so

Oh and all the ip's associated with the static.unknown.charter.net i just checked like 10 of them and they all look up to be like

MAINT-CHTR-WD Charter Communications, Western Division

I am not even in the western division.

look at the time stams on how frequent it happens.

Has nothing at all to do with it.

What it does have to do with is My internet is not working as it should be. even though charter gets like 267 bucks a mounth here.

I should be able to stream vidio no problem.
I have only used this much bandwith so for this mounth
Today: 49.2 MB / 763.5 MB (Out / In)
Month: 1.5 GB / 35.4 GB (Out / In)

That Non whoisable ip should not be hitting my connection going on 16 hours.

Plus it runs the rescources up on the Box.

Not to mention If i have to trouble shoot somthing i have to sift though more pages of logs.
Yea some times something can go amiss and i have to go find out why.

like club penquin for example wont work unless i open the ports. looking at the firewall logs it tells me what port is being blocked.

if you're so worried about it then maybe you should try the following:

LISTEN TO THE ADVICE EVERYONE IS TRYING TO GIVE YOU INSTEAD OF SWEARING UP AND DOWN THAT IT ISN'T YOUR RIDICULOUSLY OVER-COMPLICATED (and pointless) SETUP.

Go over here »All Things Unix

and tell them that smoothwall is a pointless setup.

Oh and who the heck says i have not used a live boot cd

MandrivaOne is still in my Cd rom. it has flash installed by default.

produced same results.

WTF i can not understand is why this is being hashed out.

it started working with a New IP nothing else changed here
SO i say again WTF.
Now I have the 71. IP nailing the fuck out of my box to port 80

NOw ihave one more question Why do you think my network is RIDICULOUSLY OVER-COMPLICATED (and pointless) SETUP.
????

After ya answer well continue the discussion.

Just curious what, if any, response you've gotten from the guys in the Charter Direct forum. It seems like they would be able to cut through some of the noise and help you get to the bottom of the issue. At least get you an explanation for why changing IPs suddenly makes the problem disappear. Weird stuff, I agree.

Great progress, you booted off a LiveCD and ran some tests... now did you bypass your firewall, multiple routers, and connect your PC direct to the cable modem when you did that? or did your boot off the CD with your PC behind your firewall and multiple routers? Yes, it makes a difference.

When your public IP changes is it a different subnet? If it is a different subnet, the public default gateway normally changes. Do you have ANY Charter IPs currently blocked on your firewall?

Can you atleast post the links for the specific videos you're have trouble streaming from so others can try it? If it's a Charter issue, someone in your local area may be able to duplicate it. If it's a server issue, lots of people should be able to duplicate it.

Also why do you think the 71. IP has anything to do with this problem of no video streaming from some or one site? How are these two issues related? Did they start occurring at the same time? Can you post a traceroute to that IP?
